Every American watching the debate Thursday had to realize, at this point, America is a late-stage empire.
In a devastating blow to the Department of Justice’s criminal prosecution of January 6 protesters, the U.S. Supreme Court today overturned the DOJ’s use of 18 USC 1512(c)(2), the most prevalent felony in J6 cases.
The statute, commonly referred to as “obstruction of an official proceeding,” has been applied in roughly 350 J6 cases; it also represents two of four counts in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s J6-related criminal indictment of Donald Trump in Washington. In a 6-3 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that the “c2” subsection is tethered to the “c1” subsection that addresses tampering with a record, document, or “object.” The decision means hundreds of Americans have been wrongfully prosecuted by Attorney General Merrick Garland as he insists his department is dedicated to upholding the “rule of law” and pursuing justice “without fear or favor.”
This episode of the View did not age well:
This comes on the heels of President Biden’s terrible, disturbing debate performance.
NEW: CNN’s Erin Burnett says Biden knew “every one of these questions is coming” leading many to suggest that Biden was fed debate questions beforehand.
CNN, you have some explaining to do. You fed Biden the questions??
“He practices with the mics. He knows every one of these questions is coming, and yet he couldn’t fill the time.”
Burnett: “He goes through six days of preparation, a camp day, more than that. And they know the rules.”
CNN: “Right now, there is a deep, a wide, and a very aggressive panic in the Democratic Party. It started minutes into the debate, and it continues right now. It involves party strategists and involves elected officials.
It involves fundraisers, and they’re having conversations about the President’s performance, which they think was abysmal, which they think will hurt other people down the party on the ticket.
They’re having conversations about what they should do about it. Some of those conversations include: Should we go to the White House and ask the president to step aside? Should prominent Democrats go public with that call?”
So the speed with which the Democrats threw Biden under the bus tells you everything you need to know in terms of strategy & planning.
And….
Suddenly the right is no longer “lying” about Biden’s cognitive decline – as if the people with him every day did not already know what the media/pundits are now finally saying. More importantly, who is directing this charade? And what is the end goal? This entire administration defrauded the American people about the condition of the President and in a properly functioning society, this would be a scandal.

The experts told us Joe was fine. The experts told us to take the vax. The experts told us the laptop was fake. The experts told us the border is secure. The experts told us inflation is transitory. The experts told us 2020 was the MOST legitimate and secure election in history. Remember.
President Biden is in Dire Straights. A second debate would only confirm his mental disabilities to everyone except CNN.
Doubt he agrees to another.
Much jostling going on behind the scene with influential Democratic people.
Running against a felon and losing, go figure….
Rather entertaining for us moderates…
Good to see this essential Contemporary American History column back!
Missed it on Sunday – when there was no CCM in my mail box, I thought maybe the world had ended or something and nobody bothered to tell me about it.
Am watching the President stumble through the Thursday night press conference.
Kinda embarassing.

“Biden loses his train of thought, calls Harris ‘Vice President Trump’ in solo press conference”
Rebecca Picciotto @BECCPICC
July 11, 2024
President Joe Biden on Thursday mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump” in the opening question of his highly-anticipated solo press conference in Washington.
“Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president [if] I think she’s not qualified to be president,” Biden said, confusing his second-in-command with his November election opponent, former President Donald Trump.
Thursday’s press conference was billed as the best opportunity for Biden to prove to Democrats that could handle tough questions and think on his feet in an unscripted environment.
Pressure for Biden to drop out of the 2024 race has escalated for weeks, following his disastrous debate performance against Trump on June 27 and his campaign’s subsequent failure to assuage voters’ concerns about his health.
It quickly became clear that Biden’s hourlong press conference did not put Democrats’ concerns to rest, however.
Four minutes after he walked off stage, Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, released a statement calling on Biden to exit the race.
Shortly afterwards, Rep. Scott Peters, D-Calif., did the same.
“The stakes are high, and we are on a losing course,” Peters said in a statement.
As he has throughout the week, Biden rigidly rejected any suggestion that he should or would drop out, insisting that there was no one more capable of beating Trump in November than he was.
Despite coming in on a mission to rescue his teetering campaign, the president misspoke and appeared to lose his train of thought several times, as he fielded reporters’ questions.
In another memorable slip, Biden referred to his chief of staff as “my commander in chief” before catching his mistake.
He also sometimes delivered meandering responses, like a seven-minute answer to a question about China.
As he gave it, he occasionally trailed off mid-sentence and tripped over his words.
“Some of our European friends are going to be curtailing their investment in Russia, I mean, excuse me, in China,” the president said.
When he cited numbers, he repeatedly prefaced with a disclaimer that he might get the number wrong: “Don’t hold me to the exact number.”
Biden also often interrupted himself mid-sentence, diverting to unrelated topics as he worked to make his case for reelection: “There’s so much we can do still.”
“I’m determined to get it done.”
“It’s about freedom.”
“By the way, I’ll end this, well I’m not going to do that … Haley has to come up too,” he said before trailing off.
Earlier Thursday evening, Biden added salt to his political wounds at a scripted NATO event honoring Ukraine where he accidentally introduced Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin.”
“And now I want to hand it over to the President of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,” Biden said, before quickly correcting himself.
Joe Biden looks to be the first sitting US president in this nation’s history to be dumped by his own party.
He may not last another week, and won’t make it through the Democrat convention.
This is that moment in the game when the manager signals the home plate umpire that he wants to approach the mound to put his arm around the pitcher whose last several fast balls crossed the home plate on a slow roll to lead him off the field and send him to the showers.
Or the moment during the comedian’s stumbling routine when the audience en masse cries out “GET THE HOOK!”
President Henny Youngman, ladies and gentlemen.
Take NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s wife.
Please!
Thank you.
I’ll be here all weekend.
Try the steak.
However the joke was supposed to land, it also didn’t help that the words were slurred so badly that numerous users on social media also thought Biden had completely lost leave of his senses and was saying, “I realize, as I was f***ing your wife, I personally asked you to extend your service.”
“Forgive me.”
Well they missed the hit on Trump.
Doubt if they get another chance.
Increased the odds President Biden resigns.
Just when you think that things cannot become more weird….
They can be counted on to get weirder!
