Cape Charles Mirror Sports Report – Wayne Creed
The Broadwater Vikings, behind solid line play, stingy defense and Major offensive performances by Tyler Major, Taylor Major and Major Morgan, outlasted a tough and talented Arcadia squad 41-21. One of the hallmarks of a coach Palmer team is the ability to control the line of scrimmage, on defense by limiting the ability to run wide or through the gaps, and on offense, by being able to run and control the clock. Against Arcadia, the Vikings dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. This led to a defensive performance that generally stymied the Arcadia attack, but also provided scoring opportunities for the offense. Viking’s twin attack of Taylor and Tyler Major was able to gap the Arcadia defense with several long, power runs. Quarterback Austin Murphy, with good protection, was able to use his strong arm and pinpoint accuracy to find openings in both the long and short game.

FOOTBALL: Northampton, Broadwater suffer tough losses
Northampton and Broadwater lost tough matches on Friday and Saturday, however both games were more competitive than the scores indicate. Windsor High School, always a solid opponent defeated Northampton 36-14. The Yellow Jackets tested both sides of the Windsor squad, but it was late turnovers in or near the red zone that proved their undoing. The Jackets record falls to 1-3. Northampton travels to King & Queen Central on Friday, September 25 @ 7pm.
Although Broadwater started fast with an opening drive for a touchdown, the speed, power and accurate passing attack of Greenbriar proved to be too much for the Vikings. With 36 points in the 2nd quarter, Greenbriar took a 42-14 lead into halftime. Broadwater never conceded however, and outscored Greenbriar in the 3rd quarter. Despite a strong effort, Broadwater fell by a final score of 63-40. Broadwater falls to 2-3, but with only one divisional loss.
This Friday, Broadwater travels to Arcadia for a 7:00 kickoff.
In other Shore action, James M. Bennett defeated Nandua 19-12, National Christian Defeated Chincoteague 38-0 and Arcadia defeated Snow Hill by a score of 21 to 12.

Cape Charles Fishing Report: August 30
Flounder are still biting, however the overall catch is showing signs of slowing down. There are reports of some good action near the CBBT, with general good luck with jigs or live bait. Reports have noted many are still being caught over the 20 inch mark. Cobia anglars still appear to be the winners, with nice pods still hanging around the lower Cheaspeake Bay. Buoys and CBBT pilings are still producing good numbers. There have been some reports of red drum hitting around the lower Bay, as well as Sheepshead along the CBBT.
Spanish mackerel is still showing signs of slowing, but there are still some reports from the mid to lower bay. Spade fish are still reported, but most should be moving out as the summer ends.

Fishing Report: Travis brothers continue success with Cobia, Spadefish
Cobia anglers appear to be the winners as they continue to report good success in and around Cape Charles and the CBBT. Adam and Spencer Travis report great Cobia action, but also Spadefish just outside of Cape Charles. Spadefish are still found hanging around the 4th island, with some reaching up to around 6-pounds.
Reports around Virginia Beach note a general slowing, with some Spanish Mackerel from Dam Neck north. The great catches of Spanish mackerel over the last few weeks, continues to slow down on the VB oceanfront. Flounder fishing has also shown some signs of slowing up around the wrecks and at the CBBT. In the blue water, some reports of bigeye tuna catches are showing up, with billfish action continuing to stay marginally active. In the bay, reports of spot are beginning to surface, so we may be seeing a little more of that action in the next few weeks.

Shore Soccer: wants to start 14 – 15 fall league
Northampton is becoming one of the state’s hotbeds for soccer. The continued statewide success of John Gorman’s Northampton squad is proof that there are good things happening now, and there is much more to come. Gorman understands that this does not happen all at once, but that the championship payoff comes only after years of hard work and dedication. During the summer, some of Northampton’s future stars are beginning the work that will someday lead to a state championship as they attend John Gorman’s workout sessions.
