A Christmas Carol Festive Friday

December 5, 2021 by Leave a Comment

The Cape Charles streets were alive this Festive Friday, filled with shoppers, entertainers, and lots of folks just spreading the joy of the season.

Making an appearance at several locations was a group of characters from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, including Tiny Tim, the Crachit family, and our beloved Ebenezer Scrooge.

The vignette and caroling were the work of Arts Enter’s Youth Players. The story and song arrangements were created during the Youth Theater classes held at the Palace in Cape Charles. The class is directed by Amy Watkins and Wayne Creed. Watkins told the Mirror, “We hold classes on Fridays, at the end of the week which turns out to be a really fun release for us and the kids. We usually start with basic dance movements, and then go into our musical theater, acting, and finish with fun improv theater games.”

“This group of kids are really special, ” said Creed. “They like to have fun with theater, but they also like to put in the work, which is kind of rare these days. They have a real passion for what they do…this Christmas Carol street show is really all of their ideas, role plays, research, and brainstorming coming together to create this work. Miss Amy and I are so proud of them.”

The incredible cast is comprised of Mia Froehler, Gabrielle and Jacob Duffman, Juliet Restein, Lucy Watkins, Maddie Truslow, Rylee and Breylan Coates, Reagan Payne, and breakout starlet Ava Asal as Tiny Tim.

The group will continue to perform at various locations during the remainder of Festive Fridays. If you see some Victorian characters wandering the streets, stop and give them a listen. If this group doesn’t get you into the Christmas spirit (or in Scrooges case ‘spirits), nothing will.

The Arts Enter Youth classes will begin again in January, dates TBA. Contact capecharlesmirror@gmail.com for more information.
