As construction for the new traffic light pattern is in progress at the Food Lion parking lot, an severe accident occurred around 6pm Friday which tended to highlight the need for more safety at this intersection.
Studies have shown that that the average speed through that area is over 60 mph. Add tourist traffic, and folks that are not familiar with the intersection, and you have a traffic safety issue on your hands.
Former Supervisor Granville Hogg has been beating this drum for almost twenty years now. His motivation pushed VDOT to finally address the situation.
Va Cruiser says
It’s about F*****g time VDOT got off the donkey and addressed the well-documented problem Mr. Hogg has been educating everyone, at many levels of government, about since memory began!!!
He deserves a medal for persistence and perseverance in the sole interest of protecting our County’s citizens against the blindfold of idiocy and stubbornness in the past by many leaders of our local and state government its state agencies‼️
The lights won’t prevent irresponsible vehicle operation but hopefully it may reduce the accidents in the vicinity of this shopping area.
Thank you Me Hogg for your efforts even though most of your colleagues on the BOS would not effectively support this safety concept.
