The Mirror recieved this short note from readers. Apparently, the police are now shooting fish in a barrel….we mean monitoring the speed of travelers on the Bay Creek access road:
Why is the Bay Creek road just 35? This needs to be taken care of! It is built like a highway and now I and my husband have gotten pulled over on it. I know, I know, it’s marked 35, but going 55 which is what the other road is… Also, why is the cop sitting on this access road when they should be out getting tourist money, not ripping off locals?
Be aware! The speed limit on the access road is 35!
Concerned Tax Payer says
Can’t do the time, don’t do the crime! You know what the sign says and don’t like it, petition the town and state to raise the speed limit. Until then, keep your led foot off the gas pedal!
Joe says
This isn’t ripping off the locals. Stop speeding and you won’t get a ticket!

BRAVO ZULU RASISE THE SPEED LIMIT!!
Deborah Lewis says
OK. This is another clear example of new residents from other states saying ” I want” without doing any research. Now they expect us to up the speed limit for their convenience only. NO consideration for anyone else, just give me what I want.
The new road is very complex. The Eastville map shows this road is not numbered properly as of this date. Currently there are different maps showing different road numbers. The 35 mile an hour speed limit is in conjunction with Old Cape Charles Rd where the speed limit is 35. So naturally the new road would have 35 mile speed limit.
Where Old Cape Charles Rd meets the new road, those using it to go into town have to beware of those vehicles (going at a high speed on the new road from Stone Rd to Bay Creek,) come around a curve that is mostly blind to those coming out from the Old Cape Charles Road.
Next there is the ongoing GOLF CART problems. The police also are trying to intercept golf carts illegally using the main roads to travel on. They continually refuse to follow the law and stay off of all 35 mile an hour roads in and around town. Golf cart users have clearly marked trails to ride into town, with many options to choose from. They just choose the “I want” solution and are breaking the law. Golf carts have been seen as far as the Cape Charles traffic light.
Rest assured the golf cart rentals in Cape Charles are diligent in their efforts to have their customers listen as they explain the policies of using a golf cart in the town, They have detailed agreements, and are active in safety procedures. Now they cannot follow all of them around town to make sure they are being good boys and girls, and that is where teamwork comes in. The town police have to monitor golf carts as well as traffic, to avoid a potential accident.
The new road was not built for a speedway, and I believe that we NEED to maintain our rural way of life where we can. This road was built for many reasons, delivery trucks, 18 wheelers, boat towing, and Bayshore concrete for example.
And my favorite, wild animals. Deer are all around and use these roads frequently to get to feeding areas. Not to mention our favorite marsupials, fox, racoons, and rarely seen animals.
Bay Creek residents I think are the worst offenders. Ya’ll need to cool your jets, slow down, and use golf cart trails in all 35 mile zones and when driving, go 35.
Our Cape Charles police are NOT shooting fish from a barrel, they are trying to save lives for those folks who are not mature enough to save their own life.

Well said thank you Debbie Lewis!
A Former CCPD Officer says
Deborah Lewis, thank you. Could not agree more. That road was not put there to benefit bay creek residents and guests. Some people could use a lesson in humilityad common sense!
Stuart Bell says
Most folks, today, would not take a dose of common sense if it came to them for free in a wet dream.
Stuart Bell says
Maybe they should have left homes 15 minutes earlier.
Scotiagirl says
SLOW DOWN, please!!!!!! The road is not very long, people haul boats, etc.
184 should NOT be 55 anyway, given all the driveways. What is your rush? And how could you be stopped TWICE? Support our police and SLOW DOWN.
Irene Evans says
Plenty of us walk, run, rollerblade, and bike on that road. So many exceed the 35mph speed limit. Imagine how fast people will go if the speed limit is increased to 55mph! I am thankful for the police officers doing there job.

Fed up with pretentious pips! says
It is set at 35 so you could have your beloved golf carts on it! The fact that you’re living in a gated community does NOT exempt you from obeying the law! Slow down and act like a responsible adult. C’mon, I know you can do it!
Publius Americanus says
So from what I’m hearing, the bike path was a total waste of money since most of you seem to prefer biking, rollerblading, walking etc….on a local road instead of your virtue signaling “transfer of tax dollars to favored donors” bike path.
Concerned citizen says
I’m glad to see CCPD stepping up their game when it comes to the speeders in town. Kudos to Chief Pruitt, as over the last few months I have noticed a steep increase in the amount of cars that they are pulling over, both on the new road and on Randolph. I’ve also seen their officers stopping golf carts a lot more, and educating them about the town laws on where they can ride in the road.
Keep it up!
Deb Lewis says
AMEN
Scotiagirl says
Yes indeed, keep it up. I drive a golf cart (street legal speed for electric is 25 mph)
I also drive a car, a very large truck and often pull a 40′ RV AND I respect the posted speed limit. Why? Because I respect our laws, don’t want to hurt anyone, don’t want to cause property damage! Stay off your phones, quit texting and SLOW DOWN. As a previous person mentioned leave home earlier if you are so worried about being late. Life is easier for all of us if we agree to obey our laws, chill out and quit complaining.
