The Cape Charles Town Council chalked up its first big win by appointing former town planner Larry DiRe as Town Manager. Since mid-March 2018, the Town Council has been actively searching for a new town manager. An executive session was held on August 27, 2018, and the council reached a consensus to offer the town manager position to Larry DiRe, who has been the town planner since February 2015 and interim town manager since June 2018.
The contract terms were negotiated and accepted by Mr. DiRe effective September 1, 2018. The town manager position is a chartered town officer and must be officially appointed by the Town Council.
Since coming to Cape Charles, Mr. DiRe has become one of its biggest assets. His education and work experience made him a perfect fit for the town. His knowledge of zoning and ordinances has paid dividends over and over. DiRe can take full credit for updating the town code, fixing the language, and making it more applicable to the current state of Cape Charles.
Larry is also just a really nice, good guy that has the best interests of the town and citizens at heart. Anyone that has had to deal with him can attest to his willingness to help, and his openness to share information.
