Cape Charles appoints Cela Burge to Town Council

March 18, 2018 by Wayne Creed 6 Comments

The Cape Charles Town Council appointed local resident Cela Burge as interim councilwoman, replacing Dora Sullivan who resigned earlier this year. Butch Vest was the only other candidate nominated, but his motion did not receive a second from Town Council.

Ms. Burge was sworn in by the County Clerk on Friday and will assume her role immediately.

Burge brings a plethora of experience, from both the public and private sectors.  She has served as Town Manager for six years and has over a decade of experience as an attorney.

Along with her experience as town manager, she is a former planner, marketing director, director of economic development and tourism and manager of operations.

Burge holds degrees in community development and regional planning from Concord College in addition to having earned a law degree from Regent University’s School of Law in 2005.

She currently serves as attorney for Accomack County and has served the towns of Onley, Tangier, and Chincoteague and for the Eastern Shore of Virginia 911 Commission.

Brilliant choice. She would be an excellent mayor or town manager.

    What is a ‘Cela’?

Note: Cela as a name for girls is of Greek and Latin derivation, and the name Cela means “blind; sixth; the moon; heavenly”. Cela is a variant form of Cecilia (Latin, Old Welsh). Cela is also a variant of Celena (Greek): goddess of the moon. Cela is also used as a variant of Celeste (Latin).
The surname Cela was first found in Forez, a former province of France, now part of the modern Loire, the Haute-Loire and Puy-de-Dôme départements, where the family has been a prominent family for centuries, and held a family seat with lands and manor. Sela is a Biblical place-name, the original term for the city of Petra, which is finding new life through actress Sela Ward, star of several TV series. Found on early African-American slave lists, it was sometimes spelled Cela or Cella.

Is Slide Easy one of the Mirror’s interjecting Russian Bots, attempting to sow racial discord, or does he/she merely channel Satanic interference in civilized public discourse?
