A special meeting with Congresswoman Elaine Luria had been set for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. That meeting had to be canceled due to a lack of interest by the Town Council.
Without three or more council members, the meeting did not qualify for the Virginia Open Meetings Act, so it had to be canceled.
Reasons for not meeting with the Congresswoman were not available.
Mayor Dize and Town Manager Larry DiRe did make time to meet with the Congresswoman at 3:00.
The Cape Charles meeting was part of a tour of the district, which included stops in Yorktown and Accomack.

To clear up misinformation, Congresswoman Luria’s staff requested a meeting with me, as Mayor. It was then communicated as an open meeting with full Council which was never meant to be the case.
This was an introductory meeting between the Mayor, Town Manager and Congresswoman Luria.
We will keep everyone apprised of future meetings with Council and constituents.
Note: To clear up misinformation, the meeting was advertised and scheduled, then canceled due to lack of interest. Sorry Mayor, the Mirror is a no spin zone. Better luck next time.

I hope this opinion piece is an incorrect opinion. Town Council “Blows Off” Our Congresswoman ? If that is accurate, well that is quite unprofessional, and rude. I hope there was a very valid reason for that meeting to be cancelled. I repeat that I am a socially responsible independent republicrat. No party wants me, nor I them. HOWEVER, the interest and responsible participation is there. I disagree with Ms. Luria on several issues, but if I had taken the role as Council member, I’d believe it is my duty to meet with her and discuss anything and everything relevant. Lack of participation is just that. Lack of participation. As an employer, if one of my employees refuse to work, you may guess how I handle it. I didn’t hire them to not work. So anyway, a sad situation on the Town Council if this is true. Ms. Luria is a competent and busy woman. It was rude to not meet with her. Y’all should beg for another chance and prove your dedication to the job and concern for The Shore. I’d compare the council to Ms. Pelosi’s non participation in a resolution to border problems, but I won’t go into it.
