The Town of Cape Charles has issued warnings for visitors to stay away. It has also implemented the following:
- The Cape Charles public beach will be closed, except for exercise and fishing
- Cape Charles’ Central Park will be closed, except for exercise
- The Cape Charles fishing pier will be closed
- All playgrounds and tennis courts will be closed
- All public restrooms will be closed
While the Mirror is completely against the current statewide shutdown, considers it way overkill given the data, Town Manager, also Emergency Manager John Hozey, and Mayor Dize did the correct thing by implementing these measures.
As was covered in this article, emergency response is an architecture with a set of protocols. Cape Charles is leveraging that architecture and implementing the prescribed protocol to protect its citizens. There really is no choice here.
Many years ago, when Joe Vacarro was Town Manager, I remember talking to him about emergency response. At the time, the town had none. We also noted that emergency response is fundamentally a local issue. That is, when things get real, Cape Charles is the point of the spear.
One of the first orders of business for Joe was to implement some form of framework based on the National protocols. At the time, we were more focused on natural disasters such as hurricanes. However, we were only a couple of years removed from 9/11, so an event like COVID-19, only due to some form of a terror attack, was also looked at.
Several years later, here we are. No one could have imagined something like this. The question becomes at what point do we decide to ease the protocols, and slowly get back to work?
The people advocating that we keep these shutdowns going for weeks or months longer simply aren’t grappling with or even acknowledging the human cost of the economic collapse that is certain to follow. They seem to be ignoring that aspect of the issue. And we should all be worried about that.
The crazy reaction to COVID-19 is to be expected. It’s hard to prepare for something you’ve never seen before. This is the most complex global crisis in modern history, and there’s simply too much motive for politicians and underlying media/support structures to game the situation. COVID-19 is gaming us.

Are you kidding me? Gaming us? What does that even mean? How about the cost of life. The economy Will come back but that single life lost will not.
Note: The COVID-19 response is based on nothing but ignorance and fear, apparently Americans have an abundance of each. As you should know, the body is filled with millions of astroviruses, parvoviruses, picornaviruses, picobirnaviruses. Pathogens enter the body all the time, and people with normal immune systems know how to handle it. Those with compromised immune systems, have an over-reaction to the pathogen, causing tissue damage. There is a reason this pathogen has almost a 100% recovery rate. Now compare deaths from heart disease, cancer, diabetes??? Help you immune system, get out in sun (vitamin D), eat plenty leafy greens and fruits (Vitamin A and C).

‘God bless the Queen of England. Lillibet, will you take us back from this ignoramus!?’
Really????
6,800 Americans were killed in action, 6,100 wounded, and upwards of 20,000 were taken prisoner. Historians believe that at least an additional 17,000 deaths were the result of disease, including about 8,000–12,000 who died while prisoners of war.
You should show a bit more respect.

We whipped their asses in the late 1700’s and again in 1812. How un-American it is for you t0 make such a statement. You owe the families of those who died an apology.
What is really wrong with you?

I asked you a very simple question.

I see you still have no excuse for your poor behavior.

If it were up to me I would have you deported for this statement. You need to apologize to those families that lost their loved ones.

The IMHE predictive models that were used to make the draconian decisions to shut down the entire country are wildly inaccurate –
For instance, as of yesterday:
4,158 people in Fl would be hospitalized. The actual number – 1,572.
72,177 people in NYC would be hospitalized. The actual number – 28,092.
4,621 people in Georgia would be hospitalized. The actual number – 1,296.
7,160 people in Louisiana would be hospitalized. The actual number – 1,803.
5,733 Tennesseans would be hospitalized. The actual numbers – 328
1,898 Ohioians would be hospitalized. The actual numbers – 544 deaths.
and so on.
NONE of the state predictions have come anywhere close to being correct yet we decimated our economy based on these projections and models………………NOT ACTUAL DATA.
Mark Twin said it best. “It’s easier to fool people than it is to convince them they’ve been fooled.”
Richard Shannonhouse says
The initial numbers of infected and deaths in the states was based in part on a model on citizens caring on as usual. Approximately 90% of citizens have responded by practicing social distancing, a number of others have been staying at home and generally public has been more careful. Without these practices our infection rate and death rate would certainly be higher. Unfortunately (I have read from CDC) over 20 thousand have also died this year from flu. The pandemic has been an eye opener regarding impact of virus on public. Hopefully we can learn from this and better safe guard our family, friends, loved ones and folks in general from all future virus. God speed, be safe and best wishes to all.
Paul Plante says
The initial numbers were pulled from out of the *** of New York state’s hysterical and manipulative Democratic Socialist governor Andy Cuomo for political reasons as we can see from an Albany, New York Times Union article entitled “Why have deaths in New York soared above other states?” by Anne Snabes and Chris Bragg on April 11, 2020, to wit:
ALBANY — As the number of coronavirus cases began its rapid rise in New York, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo warned that what was happening here would soon afflict many other parts of the nation.
“We are your future,” Cuomo said on March 25, five days after ordering New Yorkers to stay at home and closing non-essential businesses.
“New York is the canary in the coal mine.”
“New York is going first.”
“…What happens to New York is going to wind up happening to California, and Washington state, and Illinois.”
“It’s just a matter of time.”
In the weeks since, Cuomo’s prediction has not been borne out: As of late last week, California had about 550 deaths associated with the illness; Illinois had 528; Washington — the first state in the nation to deal with a widespread COVID-19 outbreak — had 446.
As of Friday, New York has lost 7,844 lives — including 5,820 in New York City.
Cuomo has received widespread praise and attention for his calm, commanding daily press briefings, which are viewed as reassuring by many across the country and are often contrasted with the statements made by President Donald J. Trump at his daily appearances.
But the praise has dampened in recent days as it’s become clear that — at least so far — the crisis has hit New York much harder than anywhere in the country.
How much responsibility lies with elected officials such as Cuomo, Trump and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio remains a point of contention.
end quotes
Which last statement about there being a point of contention about where responsibility for this CUOMO COVID CLUSTER**** CIRCUS really lies is hardly true, if one were to bother to read the law as it pertains to a situation like this.
Andy Cuomo and his thug-father Mario purposefully dismantled our system of public health protection in this state, and now, after sowing the wind, our Andy is reaping the whirlwind, which takes us to another Times Union article, this one entitled “Cuomo tells Howard Stern: ‘I’m scared’ but ‘We’ll get through it'” by Brendan J. Lyons on April 13, 2020, where we are all treated to this following sappy drivel concerning g governor Andy, as follows:
ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s love life, leadership and relationship with President Donald J. Trump were on the agenda when the governor called into “The Howard Stern Show” for a 40-minute interview on Monday morning.
end quotes
In the midst of the mess he has created with his incompetence and that of his broken, patronage-mill health department. do we really need to know abou Andy Cuomo’s love life?
What has that got to do with the COVID epidemic Andy Cuomo has created in New York?
The governor said that he has avoided alcohol completely, exercised sparingly and cried at times because of the number of deaths — more than 9,385 in New York — that have been associated with COVID-19, the infectious disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
“I can’t get over the death numbers every day, and I can’t rationalize it,” Cuomo said.
” … There’s nothing that abates that pain.”
end quotes
As a grandfather, I have to say that I am glad to see Andy is at least staying off the sauce, because it is obvious that the dude is in way over his head and is a psychological mess, as a result, and I would have to imagine that a lot of that is due to guilt as Andy realizes those lives lost are on his hands because he broke the public health system that was put in place to protect those lost lives, instead.
Getting back to that article, we have:
“You know I love you and I always loved you when you first became governor,” Stern told Cuomo.
“You’re providing real leadership and your whole demeanor is, well, for lack of a better word, a real turn-on.”
end quotes
HUH?
What kind of **** is that?
What does the love Howard Stern has in his heart for Andy Cuomo have to do with the COVID crisis?
And getting back to that article, because it gets more bizarre as we go, we have:
The governor said there are now conspiracy theories emerging because the pandemic has not been as severe as had been predicted by some scientific models, including one that led the governor last month to say New York would need 140,000 hospital beds.
“They all said it was going to be much much worse.”
“… The real variable was would people listen,” Cuomo said.
end quotes
Who, Andy?
Who are “they” who all said it was going to be much much worse?
Howie Zucker, your “health commissioner?”
Fauci?
Getting back to that spew of hogwash, we have:
Stern said the governor, who appears on the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone, is viewed as a “rock star” for his handling of New York’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Stern did not press Cuomo on recent reports raising questions about the urgency of the state’s response in the initial stages of the health crisis.
“I’m scared, I’m scared.”
“By the way, I’m frightened … for my mother, for my brother,” the governor said.
end quotes
Uh, okay, Andy, we understand!
And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

“Understanding pathways to death in patients with COVID-19”
Jean-Louis Vincent, Fabio S. Taccone
Published:April 06, 2020
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/S2213-2600(20)30165-X•
Currently reported case fatality rates vary from 1% to more than 7%, but these values must be interpreted with caution.
For example, where massive screening has been performed in the whole population (eg, in South Korea and Switzerland), overall case fatality rates of less than 1% have been reported, because the denominator included many mild or asymptomatic cases.
Several different scenarios can thus be considered when interpreting deaths from COVID-19.
First, for patients admitted to the ICU, death might occur despite full intensive care support, including mechanical ventilation, ECMO, vasopressors, and renal replacement therapy.
On modern ICUs, such deaths are expected to be infrequent; however, robust estimates of the number of deaths cannot be made from the mostly descriptive reports currently available.
A second possible scenario for ICU and hospital patients is related to limitation of life-sustaining therapies because of poor predicted outcomes associated with old age, frailty, comorbidities, or profound disability, or because of effects of distributive limitations associated with lack of personnel, beds, or materials.
A combination of these two factors often exists.
A third scenario relates to patients admitted to the ICU or hospital whose deaths are not directly related to COVID-19.
Especially in areas with high infection rates, patients might be admitted to the ICU with, for example, severe trauma or acute brain injury, test positive for SARS-CoV-2 during the ICU stay, and eventually die because of the initial injury; these deaths will still be attributed to COVID-19 and included in the statistics.[/b][/color]
Similarly, some patients might have SARS-CoV-2 infection, but the actual contribution of the virus to the patient’s death might be minimal.
For example, in a patient with metastatic cancer or terminal organ failure, is the viral infection or the patient’s underlying condition the cause of death?
The actual role of SARS-CoV-2 infection in such deaths is particularly difficult to evaluate in countries where only one cause can be reported on a death certificate.
To be able to better interpret case fatality rates, more data are thus needed (panel).
First, the type and severity of organ failure: what are the real contributions of respiratory or cardiovascular failure?
How many patients died with isolated respiratory failure, in shock or with acute kidney injury or multiple organ failure?
Second, the actual process of death, including therapeutic limitation when present and the relative contributions of patient factors (eg, age and comorbidities) or environmental factors (eg, lack of facilities, beds, personnel, or equipment).
Last, the real contribution to death of SARS-CoV-2 infection, because COVID-19 can be an epiphenomenon in some patients.

**********FLASH!!!************
NEW NEWS ALERT!
STOP!
STOP!
STOP THE PRESSES NOW!!!!
NEW NARRATIVE TO BE BROADCAST FOLLOWS:
“Trump Conspires With Chinese To Keep America White By Having The Chinese Infect the Good Black Democrats in America With A Disease That Kills Them But Spares White Republicans!”
“Pelosi said to be puce with rage: ‘I told, I told you, I told you Trump was going to keep America white and now he’s gone and done it with the aid of his political allies in China'”
“We should institute impeachment hearings instantly to investigate this serious collusion between Trump and the Chinese to keep America white, to see if it is a high crime or misdemeanor,” she is said to have said by stunned bystanders at the vehemence she was expressing.
Like molten lava flowing, more than one was heard to have said.
Barmy Bernie Sanders is said to be sputtering incomprehensibly in in inchoate rage at the indignity and injustice of it, upon learning about the conspiracy though CNN, as only Bernie can sputter, with his arms flying around and hands waving wildly.
And talk about inchoate rage and a volcano getting ready to blow its stack like another Krakatoa – America’s favorite First Lady bar none, Hillary Clinton, is said to be stamping her foot continuously, as only Hillary can do as she works her rage to the surface in what promises to be a spectacular display of emotion when she explodes all over for his racist policies that caused this COVID to only infect black people who vote the straight Democrat line.
Promises to be quite a show!
Stay tuned for further developments as they happen and now, back to our regularly scheduled programming that was in progress as the time of the FLASH NEWS ALERT!
Jack Spratt says
If this is meant as a joke, it’s not funny, but if it’s meant seriously, it’s hilarious. Either way, it’s sad.
Paul Plante says
It’s a rapidly developing story, Jack, with an ever-changing narrative with more twists and turns, as you can see from the above, than forty miles of bad road!
It’s shifted off that narrative, since then, because that narrative wasn’t gaining any real traction, especially after being made a mockery of in here, as it should have been, and Nancy Pelosi is shrieking about something else now, which is the latest version of the narrative, but I’m so sick of this continuous blizzard of BULL**** coming at us from the Democrats down in Washington. D.C. that I don’t know what it now is, other than it would have to be something to do with Trump, because Nancy don’t like Trump, and she is not going to let a day go by without her letting us know it.
