Changes to Election Protocol due to Coronavirus

March 22, 2020 by Wayne Creed 1 Comment

Attention Voters in the May Town Elections in Cape Charles and Exmore:
The Northampton County Administration Building will be closed to visitors for the near future. However, at this time we are still continuing absentee voting for the May Town Elections in Cape Charles and Exmore. Voters are being strongly encouraged to choose one of the two voting choices to cast a ballot for the May Town Elections in order to avoid going to the polls on May 5, 2020.

Option 1: Vote At Home
We are encouraging all voters to “Vote AT Home” for the May 5th Town Elections. Voters may request an absentee ballot online through the Virginia Department of Elections at:
https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation

All voters may use code 2A or “disability or illness” as the reason for requesting an absentee ballot if they do not have another qualifying reason.
Voters may also register to vote or update their voter registration information online at the same website.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28th. We encourage voters to request a ballot as soon as possible to allow for mail delivery.

Option 2: In Person Absentee Voting in your Town
For the wellbeing and convenience to the voters of Cape Charles and Exmore, the Voter Registration Office will be creating satellite voting centers in each town.

The hours and location for each town are as follows:
Cape Charles: Monday and Wednesday from 11am to 1 pm at the Gazebo in Central Park at the corner of Plum and Monroe.
Exmore: Tuesday and Thursday from 11am to 1pm at the Exmore Town Park, 3386 Main St.

How you can help:
• Bring your own pen, either blue or black.
• Please respect others by not crowding.
• Please do not bring a dog, and if you do, please use a leash.
• Have your photo ID ready.

Please check our website for updates and more information.

    Wayne,
Thanks for putting this up. I just want to update voters on the situation.

Voters, the best way to cast a ballot for the May Town Election is through the mail. You can call the office, (678-0480) to request an application be sent to you, or go on line to the Department of Elections (https://www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot/ ). I will also have applications and SASE’s with me when I am there for in-person absentee voting Mondays and Wednesdays from 11-1. Also, we are supplying return postage on all envelopes.

I was out yesterday in Central Park and saw a couple hearty souls walking dogs, but no voters. I will be there M-W until April 29th or until we are forced to suspend in-person voting. I want to thank Libby and the town for all their help with this; they have been great. Just a note that we are in the town so voters won’t have to travel, and outside because when we thought our county building would be closed to the public we also anticipated the towns closing their buildings as well. We are doing the same thing in Exmore on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11-1, in the utility building in the Exmore Town Park.

Voters, please call if you have any questions or would like to request an absentee ballot. Or, come to the park, bring your ID and vote in person.

    Phone: 678-0480 Fax: 678-0453 email: vote@co.northampton.va.us
