VIRGINIA BEACH — Fisheries experts will discuss the biology, history and future of the native oyster at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s next free Brock Environmental Center Learning Series discussion on Sept. 11.

“The Legendary Bay Oyster” will include presentations by Steven Bowman, commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and Missy Southworth, senior marine scientist at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
The discussion on the iconic shellfish comes as the Chesapeake Oyster Alliance works toward a goal of 10 billion new oysters in the Bay by 2025.
The talk will be from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brock Environmental Center at 3663 Marlin Bay Drive.
Parking is available a short walk from the Brock Center on Marlin Bay Drive. The event is free, but space is limited. Required advance registration is available here.
