Congresswoman Elaine Luria’s Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act Receives Support of 16 More Service and Veteran Organizations
20 Total VSOs Now Endorse 20-Year Navy Veteran’s Bill to Help America’s Most Heroic Families
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Elaine Luria (VA-02) today announced that the number of service, veteran, and survivor organizations to offer their support for H.R. 2481, the Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act, climbed to 20. This is in addition to 155 cosponsors from both sides of the aisle and the formal endorsement of a bipartisan veterans caucus in Congress.
Congresswoman Luria’s Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act, H.R. 2481, would fix a consequence of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that is causing Gold Star Families to see drastic tax increases.
“As evidenced by the outpouring of support for my bill, service members and veterans across the country agree there is a real problem facing our Gold Star Families,” Congresswoman Luria said. “Together, with the support of Democrats, Republicans, and nonpartisan organizations, we will fix a flaw in our tax law and provide more financial security to America’s most heroic families.”
In addition to the original four organizations to announce their support – Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Gold Star Wives of America, Military Officers of America, and The American Legion – organizations that have endorsed the Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act now include Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, National Military Family Association, AMVETS, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Air Force Sergeants Association, Army Aviation Association of America, AMSUS – the Society of Federal Health Professionals, Association of the United States Navy, Commissioned Officers Association of the U.S. Public Health Service Inc., the Chief Warrant Officers Association of the U.S. Coast Guard, Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Marine Corps Reserve Association, Non Commissioned Officers Association of the United States of America, The Retired Enlisted Association, USCG Chief Petty Officers Association, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
“As leaders of the major veterans, military, and survivor organizations, we are pleased to offer our support for H.R. 2481, the Gold Star Family Tax Relief Act,” the groups wrote in a letter to Congresswoman Luria. “Thank you again for your leadership on this issue. We look forward to working with you and your staff to pass this important legislation immediately.”
