Democrats Killed Bill that would have paid Coast Guard

January 27, 2019 by Wayne Creed 5 Comments

With the Government shutdown temporarily put on hold for three weeks, it should not be lost that the US Coast Guard could have been paid during these last few weeks.

During a speech on the Senate floor, Senator Ted Cruz spoke out against Democrats who refused to pass a bill to pay members of the Coast Guard.

Senator John Kennedy recently introduced a bill that would pay the Coast Guard, but it was blocked by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Cruz spoke out against the bill being blocked and reminded lawmakers the Coast Guard is working to protect the country.

“We should pay our Coast Guard,” said Cruz. “It is not right that we aren’t paying the Coast Guard. Right now every other military branch is being paid … but the Coast Guard is not being paid even as they’re risking their lives.”

He also pointed out that the bill had nothing to do with the shutdown and should have easily gotten bipartisan support.

“He brought forward a bill to pay the Coast Guard. It did nothing else. It didn’t address any aspect of the shutdown, didn’t address any aspect of the wall, it simply said let’s pay the men and women of the Coast Guard yes or no. That means you can be a yes on that, whether you think we need to secure the border and have a steel barrier or support open borders, it doesn’t say anything either way.”

Watch:

.@SenJohnKennedy brought forward a clean bill that does one thing—it pays the salaries of the Coast Guard.

If @SenSchumer hadn't objected it would’ve passed. @POTUS could’ve signed it tonight.

We agree that withholding the pay of the Coast Guard is a travesty , outrageous . But no more so than withholding the pay of federal emergency workers , federal firefighters and police , federal air controllers , etc.

We must also agree that President Donald Trump owns this latest and worst government shutdown . I watched Trump live on TV not only taking ” credit ” for shutting down the government BUT saying he was proud of it ! Now , this is not my opinion ; this is what Trump said .

Cruz’s crocodile tears act was simply political posturing.

    Sláinte …stay warm tomorrow 😉

Slainte, eh? Betcha wish Ireland had a wall to keep out the Orangemen.

The Federal Gov should be about 20,000 people strong, no more. That over 800,000 people are employed there spits on the spirit of America as intended.

The security gates of the Derry/Londonderry wall have been removed/abandoned and the wall itself is being removed as we speak .

        Thanks for asking .

Again, it’s a shame y’all didn’t have one about 800+ years ago……….might have a WHOLE country, instead of a group of counties.
