Do Counties need a Hazardous Waste Collection Site?

January 13, 2019 by Leave a Comment

The ANPDC, after acquiring grants to investigate this project, is lobbying both counties to consider building a household hazardous waste collection facility to be located in Painter. The new site would allow citizens to get rid of materials such as old paint and solvents.

At Tuesday’s Regular Meeting , the Northampton Board of Supervisors was presented with a Joint Resolution by the ANPDC that lends support to building the site.  There were some legal issues with the resolution, such as an indemnity clause–County Attorney Bev Leatherbury said it is illegal for the county to offer indemnification.

Chairman  Murray also expressed concern about the costs associated with this project and indicated they have not been fully worked out. The resolution was tabled until legal and financial issues were addressed.
