The Eastern Shore Literacy Council, which has provided free tutoring to adult residents of the Shore for 31 years, is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Chagnon as its new Executive Director.
Richard joins us after a career as a consultant in outplacement and talent management for several large corporations. He graduated from the University of Ottawa and continued his education later taking business courses at Rutgers and Temple University.
His love of the Eastern Shore dates back more than 39 years when he and his late wife, Lucille, honeymooned on Chincoteague. They even talked about retiring there and later owned several rental properties before making the dream a reality 10 years ago.
Richard’s passion for Literacy developed in conjunction with his wife Lucille’s life-long commitment to making a difference through Literacy education. Richard worked alongside her managing her business, Literacy Acceleration Consulting, proofing her books, participating in events and volunteering here on the Shore. They adopted twin boys and the family includes 5 grandchildren all of whom live in New Jersey.
Richard’s vision is to continue building up the people of the Eastern Shore by providing resources our learners need to move up the social and economic ladders and fully participate in their communities and schools.
Betty Mariner, President of the Board, stated, “We are thrilled to have someone like Richard with his wealth of professional experience and a long-term commitment to Literacy”.
