The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission is excited to announce the hiring of Mrs. Christy Haycox Betz as the new Assistant Executive Director of Tourism. She will be responsible for the Southern Gateway Welcome Center, developing strong relationships with the Shore’s tourism businesses, and assisting in the advocacy of the tourism industry.
Christy is an Eastern Shore native who grew up in Cashville and learned at an early age the beauty and serenity of the Eastern Shore. Some of her favorite childhood memories are of boating on the serene Onancock Creek and the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. These waters were home for half of her life and she’s excited to be back where she can immerse herself into the community.
After graduating from Virginia Tech in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing Management, Christy has spent her career in marketing and sales management with both fortune 500 companies and international hospitality and construction industries. She met her husband while living in Virginia Beach, as he was stationed in Norfolk serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married in 2009 and his career has allowed them the experience of living in Johnson City, TN and most recently Sacramento, CA. In 2011 they were blessed with a daughter, Summer, and in 2013 they welcomed their son, Parker.
This year Christy’s husband, Chief Petty Officer James Betz, will be retiring after 20 years of loyal service of his Country. Christy and her husband are excited to be moving back to the Eastern Shore to raise their children with the same love of community and nature that she was brought up loving. Christy is excited to be back home and will work tirelessly for the benefit of the tourism businesses on the Eastern Shore. If you would like to contact Christy, she can be reached by phone at (757) 710-4375 or by email at assistant.ed@esvatourism.org.
