For those of us the still love the scream of a Ferrari or roar of an American muscle car, The Brussel Times confirms what many of us have been feeling in our gut as Green Fascists continue their assault on all things good.
A new German study exposes how electric vehicles will hardly decrease CO2 emissions in Europe over the coming years, as the introduction of electric vehicles won’t lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions from highway traffic.
According to the study directed by Christoph Buchal of the University of Cologne, published by the Ifo Institute in Munich last week, electric vehicles have “significantly higher CO2 emissions than diesel cars.” That is due to the significant amount of energy used in the mining and processing of lithium, cobalt, and manganese, which are critical raw materials for the production of electric car batteries.
A battery pack for a Tesla Model 3 pollutes the climate with 11 to 15 tonnes of CO2. Each battery pack has a lifespan of approximately ten years and total mileage of 94,000, would mean 73 to 98 grams of CO2 per kilometer (116 to 156 grams of CO2 per mile), Buchal said. Add to this the CO2 emissions of the electricity from powerplants that power such vehicles, and the actual Tesla emissions could be between 156 to 180 grams of CO2 per kilometer (249 and 289 grams of CO2 per mile).
German researchers criticized the fact that EU legislation classifies electric cars as zero-emission cars; they call it a deception because electric cars, like the Model 3, with all the factors, included, produce more emissions than diesel vehicles by Mercedes. They further wrote that the EU target of 59 grams of CO2 per kilometer by 2030 is “technically unrealistic.”

C’mon, you’re kidding, right ? Someone in Germany, who loves Audi and M..B diesels, writes such an article, and we aren’t supposed to notice the prejudice ? Where’s the proof the article’s author has researched the entire world’s pollution statistics ? AND he truthfully reports them ? AND he really knows all the energies used and the waste products of all the parts made for all the cars of the world ?
Look, I’m a guy who has chased many’s the other dirt track racer around with 550 h.p. under the hood. It’s fun. The adrenaline can keep you up for days. But on the street ? How much do you like buying gasoline ? The price of it never bothers you ? You ACTUALLY THINK 10 m.p.g. is cool ? You want to buy gas all your life ? Right now my street car is a Honda Hybrid. At any traffic light I just barely touch the accelerator and I’m out in front of any muscle car. The carbureted and fuel injected lag times leaves them behind. Hybrids and electric cars are quicker. Sure, 1/4 mile down the road if we all want to be reckless and get tickets the musclers can fly by, and we can all press our luck. But I always thought that was for the race track.
Be that as it may, when we put those S Model Teslas next to Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers it’s the same story. The Teslas fly. I would just like you to realize electric cars are a lot of fun. They are quick. They are fast. While rumbling down the road can be a lot of fun, I personally think doing the same thing just as quickly, but silently, is just as cool, if not cooler. Actually I think much cooler.
I believe this German article to be as forthcoming as an FBI request for a FISA warrant. The lies by omission are just as flagrant. I don’t see the article AT ALL reporting on the dirty factory emissions while producing standard autos, and we also know that emissions standards for cars and factories are more strict here. So just how much does this article compare apples to apples ?
In the meantime, and before you all think I think promoting electric cars is the end all and be all, I wish to complain about OUR GOVERNMENT !! Take a drive out Interstate 64 to Richmond lately ? Stop at a rest area. Have you seen the FREE ELECTRIC CAR CHARGERS ???????? Why ? PREJUDICE !!!! Where’s my free gas ??
Then again, the gov. has talked about special taxes for hybrid and electric cars. All cars pay road and use taxes by buying gasoline. I get avg. about 43 m.p.g. so I, theoretically, pay less road tax than most. What about fully electric ? AND now they can get some free electric ?
No wonder Northam wants to wear blackface to work. With ideas like these he doesn’t want to be recognized ! (sarcasm folks)…..

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA), not a gas powered automobile lobbying group by any stretch of the imagination, most recent long-term forecasts for the number of new electric vehicles through 2050 estimates how much electricity they’d use and then calculated how much pollution that electricity would generate.
Compared to the emissions of NEW gasoline-powered vehicles widespread adoption of electric vehicles nationwide will increase air pollution.
This is where EV proponents’ arguments run off the road. They fail to consider just how clean and efficient new internal combustion vehicles are. Today’s IC vehicles emit about 1% of the pollution they did in the 1960’s.
As for that EV, the energy doesn’t come from nowhere. They are charged from the nation’s electrical grid, which means that they’re only as “clean” as America’s mix of power sources.
We still generate power mainly by burning fossil fuels, natural gas and coal. Third on the list is nuclear power, which doesn’t generate emissions but has other byproducts that worry environmentalists.
Bringing up the rear are the “renewable sources” but even with a massive increase ( think of the COST!!!!) in wind and solar generation, the EIA projects that the nation’s electric generating mix will be at most, 30% renewable by 2030.
Now get this, based on that forecast, if the EIA’s projected number of electric vehicles were replaced with new IC vehicles, air pollution would DECREASE, even including the emissions from oil refineries that manufacture gasoline.
As for greenhouse-gas emissions, again based on the EIA’s projection of the number of new electric vehicles, the net reduction in CO2 emissions between 2018 and 2050 would be only about ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT of total U.S. energy-related carbon emissions.
So, if electric-vehicle subsidies don’t help the environment, who do they help?
Warning, Liberals, conundrum ahead.
Most EV buyers are far wealthier than average Americans. A nationwide survey in 2017 found that 56% of EV owners household incomes of at least $100,000 while the median household income for the US was half that.
The government subsidies disproportionately benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor who cannot afford to buy electric vehicles. In addition, the wires and charging stations needed to charge all those electric vehicles will be paid for by all ratepayers, further raising electric rates, affecting low income people far more than their rich neighbors.
And, as noted, the government is installing FREE charging stations for EV’s owned by the 1%’ers. Clearly, the 1%’ers enjoy the benefits of their clean, silent cars, while passing on many of the costs of keeping their vehicles on the road to everyone else, especially the poor.
More “not for thee, but for me” hypocrisy from the anti-gunners with armed security sitting behind their totally effective walled homes.
In the end, EV subsidies and mandates share an all too common trait with other government policies. They’re based on “conventional wisdom” that turns out to be wrong.
Besides, I want my grandson sitting on the living room rug pushing a toy Corvette going vroooooom, vrooooooom, not zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt. 🙂

Let’s build an electric car!!!
1. Develop and erect AN ENTIRELY NEW PLANT. With all the associated environmental costs. Trucks to site, excavation, exhaust, materials to site, exhaust, contractors to site etc…..ad infinitum.
2. Mine and manufacture batteries. (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/environmental-conservation/article/heavy-metal-pollution-in-the-sudbury-mining-and-smelting-region-of-canada-i-soil-and-vegetation-contamination-by-nickel-copper-and-other-metals/F2AB075780381015B120FC8D63DCE353) here is a link to the devastation produced by ONE mine. I won’t go into the problem of what to do with the used batteries, that alone is an issue that moots the benefits of the EV. (http://www.sciforums.com/threads/prius-worse-than-hummer-for-the-environment.644 48/) this article debates the enviro costs of a hummer versus a prius and sadly the Prius does not come out well.
3. Dealerships, charging stations, home electrical upgrades for 220 line for charging. Each have a cost.
None are factored into the stats of an EV.
And finally, it is never the car it is the driver. I have taken Tesla’s off the line in my 4 banger minivan because most of these mopes couldn’t handle the acceleration with an extra pair of undies and a co-pilot.
and Vroom Vroom sounds so much better than………………..well, nothing.

Always nice to hear your point of view, Mike.
Wouldn’t it be something if the bean burgers from Kelly’s could be used as a source of fuel after consumption.
That would be a win-win-win all the way around and it would be good for the GDP of Cape Charles, as well.

I am a strong proponent of using captured methane from any source available.
Yes, capped landfills are best but if you are willing to wear a capture hose facing south………..well, let’s go!!!!

Well, here’s a thorough study on the question https://www.eea.europa.eu/publications/electric-vehicles-from-life-cycle
Conclusion… you might be better off taking the bus. Electric or Internal Combustion, we will have to face soon the fact that the planet cannot sustain a personal car for everyone, Electric or IC.
