(Exmore) Exmore’s merchants would like to give a hearty and sincere bow to the town’s government and its employees for their professional coordination in making the September 16th Town Wide Yard Sale a resounding success. Over 2,500 people and hundreds of sellers flocked to the town on another spectacular and fun day. There is no question that the festival would not have been possible without the help from the town’s clerical staff and the Exmore Police and Public Works department. It is this perfect storm of dedicated employees along with
Exmore’s Mayor and Council and Town Manager Robert Duer that has breathed new life into this fantastic town and the business district is reaping the benefits of those efforts.
The new Dollar Tree joins with the new Family Dollar, both on the Exmore stretch of Route 13, in beating all expectations of growth and revenue and the packed parking lots bear proof of that vibrancy. Our two hotels, the Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn top the industry standard in occupancy rates, and our four restaurants are enjoying similar success. In town, the Yellow Duck has been sold and exciting plans are on the drawing board, and a developer has snapped up the old People’s Trust Building on the corner of Bank and Main…with another set of blistering and head-turning blueprints being penned as we write.
Over 15 retail shops in the Main Street district (antiques, bakery, consignment, pet store, flea market, farm market, plumbing supply, Western Auto hardware, sporting goods, bargain clothing outlet, thrift stores, Lloyd’s drug store, etc.) offer buying experiences unmatched in any Eastern Shore of Virginia town. They join 12+ other service establishments including: medical and eye care; three beauty salons and a barber shop, upholstery shop, auto repair and sales; tire sales and repair; deer processing; title and settlement; boat repair and sales, and a custom tile shop. A new art gallery is developing on Commercial and Front Streets, so keep your eye on that one. Finally, the world famous New Ravenna Mosaic factory serves as a backdrop for our merchant
district and is one of the largest employers in Northampton County.
Our revamped town park features a brand new event building, music stage, benches and a top notch playground. Don’t touch that town dial for some very exciting events there. Thanks to sound management and hard work, our town went from drowning in red ink to having a handsome surplus in just a few short years. New town wells are in the pipeline and work has begun on new infrastructure improvements such as sewer upgrades and lines.
Exmore’s Main Street business district enjoys affordable rents, bargain prices on real estate, one of the most central locations on the Eastern Shore, and sits literally less than 60 seconds off Route 13. Due to business expansion, relocation, and retirement, there are some very exciting opportunities opening on Main Street and Bank Avenue, as well as two fantastic commercial retail buildings for sale (the old Peebles Building for one). The merchant district invites all to enjoy Exmore’s vibrant resurgence and to consider joining our ranks.
