The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission (ESVATC) hosts its fourth annual Tourism Summit – The Sky’s the Limit 2017 – on Tuesday, April 11. This is a free, half-day workshop for Eastern Shore tourism business owners and future tourism entrepreneurs, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Shore Community College. Lunch, catered by Bill’s Seafood and Prime in Chincoteague, will be provided to attendees at no charge.
Zack Miller of Hatch will lead the workshop, designed to help current tourism business owners identify growth opportunities, and to help potential tourism entrepreneurs find spring boards to become part of one of Virginia’s fast growing destinations. Mr. Miller has played a major role in helping Hampton Roads build a dynamic start up community, ranked higher than DC, Chicago and Richmond, according to the Kaufman Startup Index. He is bringing this expertise to the Virginia Eastern Shore. The workshop includes an interactive exercise to teach attendees how to think differently about starting or running a business and an interactive panel discussion featuring town leaders from across the region to identify “pain points” they face in developing and managing their tourism destinations.
The annual Tourism Summit, organized by the Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission, helps the region’s tourism businesses – hotels, motels, vacation rentals, B&Bs, restaurants, shops, galleries, tour operators and other attractions — develop and deepen core competencies required to grow their tourism business. Tourism is one of the Eastern Shore’s fastest growing economic sectors. According to the Virginia Tourism Corporation, visitors to VA’s Eastern Shore spent $261 million (that’s $715,000 a day) and contributed $7 million in local taxes to the region in 2015. The Eastern Shore is Virginia’s second fastest-growing tourism region.
A drawing to give away a free, full-page ad in the 2018 Eastern Shore of Virginia Activity Guide will be conducted at the end of the workshop. The prize winner must be affiliated with a tourism-related business and be present to win.
Space for the Tourism Summit is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
