Betsy Doherty joined the staff of the Cape Charles Memorial Library on July 22, 2021 as a part-time library assistant.
Meet Betsy, in her own words:
I’m a master gardener and volunteer at the New Roots Youth Garden. I enjoy bicycle riding, kayaking, hiking, quilting and am an avid reader.
While living in Newport News and working as a social worker I traveled to the Eastern Shore for work purposes. Several times I passed the sign for cape Charles. I’d read an interesting article about Cape Charles and finally my husband Dave and I made time to check it out.
Several visits later we decided this is the place for us. We purchased a fixer upper in Cape Charles and moved into a rental in Onancock shortly before the pandemic. Much of the work on the house we have done ourselves and (for better or worse) it is ongoing.
During this process we’ve found the people of Cape Charles and the Eastern Shore to be friendly, helpful, and resourceful. All wonderful qualities during a pandemic and while building.
I’m happy to be part of the life of the library which I consider to be an invaluable resource to the community. I look forward to meeting and helping residents and visitors to the library.

Scotiagirl looks forward to meeting you! As a fellow “come here” she also loves the Shore, is an avid reader, and member of a Garden Club (although in Northern Virginia).
WELCOME, you are just what Cape Charles needs!
