Low Country Shrimp Boil April 28th

April 15, 2018 by Wayne Creed 5 Comments

The Cape Charles Historical Society will hold its traditional Low Country Shrimp Boil on Garden Day, 2018 at the Cape Charles Museum from 5 – 9 p.m.

The menu features the famous Alabama shrimp boil recipe — shrimp cooked with red potatoes, special “Old Timer” smoked sausage shipped in from Alabama, corn on the cob, onions and peppers.

Other accompaniments include homemade rolls and coleslaw, dessert and beverages, with wine and draft beer available. Food served from 5 – 7. All enjoyed with live music by the popular Grassafrass Band.

There will be a Silent Auction in the adjoining Bloxom Station Building (donations welcome) and the traditional 50/50 raffle. Seating is available inside the Museum or outdoors under the tent.

Tickets are $40, $15 for children 7 to 12, (under 7 free) and are available by cash or check from Periwinkles at 215 Mason Ave. in Cape Charles, or by credit card* from our website Capecharlesmuseum.org. Also on sale at the Museum starting April 21, with a limited number, pending availability, at the door (757-331-1008). Event sponsors are most welcome, starting at $120 which includes 2 free tickets.

Contact Kimb Denny (757-607-6483) for more information. The Museum will open for the season on April 22.

You couldn’t come up with a ‘Eastern Shore’ menu?

      FYI,
The late Lenore Savage brought the Low Country shrimp boil to the museum as a fundraiser. It has always been a raging success! Maybe you Miss White can come up with a menu and have the fundraiser wherever you want.

Someone always has something negative to say, if you don’t like the menu, don’t go. There are plenty of festivities throughout the year with local eats.

They have been having a Bayou Boogaloo Cajun Food Fest in Norfolk for 29 years. Why didn’t they have a “Hampton Roads” based menu? Because the people attending live there and eat “Hampton Roads” based foods all the time. Do something people don’t experience frequently and they come to the events.

I personally feel that if you do not like the menu, stay home! People pay because it is different and for a great cause.
