Luria Endorses Phil Hernandez for Delegate

August 25, 2019 by Leave a Comment

NORFOLK, VA — Congresswoman Elaine Luria (VA-02) today announced her endorsement of Phil Hernandez for Delegate in Virginia’s 100th House District.

“Phil is dedicated to serving his country and community. I trust him to fight for public education, protect our environment and way of life, and stand up for working families,” said Congresswoman Elaine Luria (VA-02). “Norfolk and the Eastern Shore deserve to have a champion like Phil serving them in the House of Delegates.”

“As the son of a single mother, and the first in my family to graduate from college, I am honored to have the support of my United States Representative, Congresswoman Elaine Luria,” said Phil Hernandez, candidate for Delegate in Virginia’s 100th House District. “As Delegate, I will work hand in hand with Congresswoman Luria to ensure that families on the Eastern Shore and in Norfolk are no longer left out and left behind.”

The 100th district includes Virginia’s Eastern Shore and northern neighborhoods of the City of Norfolk. The district has trended blue in recent years, choosing the Democratic candidate in each of the most recent Congressional, Senatorial (federal and state), Presidential, and Gubernatorial elections. Phil is a Democrat running against incumbent Republican Robert Bloxom. In June alone, Phil out-raised his opponent 200:1.

Born and raised in Hampton Roads, Phil Hernandez attended public schools, and received a scholarship that made it possible for him to attend William & Mary and become the first in his family to graduate from college. Phil served as a Senior Policy Analyst in President Obama’s White House Domestic Policy Council, and, while in law school, helped to pass legislation aimed at preventing homelessness. More recently, Phil worked as an attorney with a nonprofit organization and advocated for civil rights and the rights of working people.
