Town staff is proposing amended town code language for a leash\physical constraint law. Also, proposing amended language to implement some of the former “dog committee” recommendations of a longer time period for dogs on beach (May 1- Labor Day instead of the current April 1 – Labor Day; and 9:00 pm to 10:00 am instead of the current 9:00 pm to 9:00 am).
The meeting is scheduled for July 18th at 6:30 at the Civic Center.
This meeting will again be formational again this month with staff recommendation for Town Council vote at the August 1 special meeting.
The issue of a dog park in town will not be part of this meeting, however, it will be discussed later in August.

Tonight I was with my dog and meeting friends on the beach . Crested the hill ran into two dogs off a leash one a pit bull which not knowing the temperament of the dog I yelled get your dog on a leash , then a older man yelled at me “ there is no leash law” I said in disbelief You are wrong I called the police , they dispatched our town police. She tells me there is no law yet , I thank her . And in dismay after being total disrespectedby the two young men on the beach , we need a law .
Phoebus says
It sounds like you yelled at an old man and then called the police on him when he wasn’t doing anything wrong. Maybe there should be an elder abuse law in cape Charles for people like you.

We need a leash law. I was bitten by a dog not on a leash in Central Park last year, and a neighbor was attacked by several unleashed dogs belonging to renting tourists several months ago. Children could have been the victims.
Kearn SCHEMM says
A dog on a leash can bite, at least the last time I looked. Bull Connors dogs were on leashes and they bit real hard.

What we may need is a vicious dog law, one that removes dangerous dogs from our town. Why should harmless, well behaved dogs be punished for the acts of vicious dogs?
Blue Hoss says
your white guilt drips from the words you type. Could you ancestors afford slaves or did you just jump on the wagon to show them you care?
Kearn C SCHEMM says
I don’t feel (white or any other kind of) guilty for anything I didn’t do. There is no such thing as collective guilt. I mentioned Bull Connor simply since most people know the name and remember the pictures of the leashed dogs attacking and biting people. I am against the leash dog, that is my point.
Blue Hoss says
I am quite sure I asked you a question.

Mr Thom fails to mention that he was on the beach with his dog before 9PM. He was breaking the law while yelling at people who were not breaking the (non-existent) leash law. Neither he nor his dog were in danger, he was a control freak trying to boss other people around. He thinks we need a new law on dogs when he doesn’t obey the law already on the books.
