EXMORE – This year, dads will receive special recognition here on the Eastern Shore with a spirited Gospel Extravaganza: A Tribute to Fathers, set for June 18, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Exmore Town Park in downtown Exmore. Organized by Jane Cabarrus, the Gospel Extravaganza is a harmonized “thank you” to the men who play such an important role in the lives of children.
Traditionally, Southern Gospel music features all-male voices, and three of the local groups performing on Father’s Day fit that model, including the New Heavenly Wings Over Jordan, the Joshua Gospel Singers, Willie Johnson, guitar soloist, the New Mt. Calvary Male Choir of Exmore, and special guest, McKay Shockley.
“We want to communicate with music our gratitude for men who provide the foundations for strong children, strong families and strong communities,” said Ms. Cabarrus. “The influence of fathers is vital at every stage of a child’s development. Thanks to all dads and father figures for simply being there when needed.”
The Gospel Extravaganza is free, and open to everyone on the ESVA. There is ample free parking nearby. The Exmore Town Park has a limited number of benches and sitting areas for the older generation and a large playground for children. Those attending the event are advised to bring lawn chairs. As this is a family event, alcohol is not permitted.
The Gospel Extravaganza is an extension of the 18th Annual Juneteenth Festival taking place in the Exmore Town Park on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Also known as Freedom Day, this is a national day of pride honoring the official end of slavery in the United States.
