New Wayfinding Signs Coming to Cape Charles

February 16, 2020 by Wayne Creed 10 Comments

The Wayfinding Committee has been tasked to identify the best design, location, and content for wayfinding signs in the town.

The design of the signs was produced by OTTO and show the following sizes:
Level 1 120” x 84” (10 x 7)
Level 2 72” x 60” (6 x 5)
Level 3 48” x 54” (4 x4.5)
Level 4 36” x 36” (3×3)
Level 5 24” x 24” (2 x 2)
Level 6 16” x 12”
*Level 7 48” x 96” (4 x 8)
*Level 8 96” x 60” (8 x5)

Aerial maps and imagery were used to determine the locations of the wayfinding signs.

Town Council will be reviewing the committee’s findings at the next Regular Meeting on Thursday 2/20/2020 06:30 PM at the Civic Center.

    Okay. Very nice signs.
Why ? People can’t find their way around ? Can’t find the beach ? Or the main downtown area ? Really ?
    Signs, signs, everywhere signs…..
Do we really need all those ? The Cape Charles sign out by 13 is wonderful. We need a new one ? Really ?
What’s wrong with the street signs we have ? The poles to be replaced too ? PRICEY….How many street signs are we talking about replacing ? I always thought what we have look timeless and fine.
I bet these signs are a lot more expensive than some people realize. Me included. A LOT MORE. We have lots of spare money ? REALLY ? WE DO ?? How much are they ?
Looks to me like the library project, and other projects will be put off again.
Do we really need ALL these ? Or maybe just a couple……
Lastly, let us consider the fact that many large and successful brick and mortar stores have reduced the amount and size of their signs. That marketing theory believing that while folks are looking for items they need and came to buy, they inadvertently find other things they didn’t know were there, because they took more time to look around, because of no signs, and more sales follow. Don’t we like visitors strolling the streets ? You didn’t think those stores eliminated their signs by mistake, did you ?

These signs are great! Will be clear location finders for all those new to Cape Charles, plus they look neat and organized. Impressive!

Why do we want to change the old time look of our town by adding signs everywhere? We are small and it’s very easy to find your way around. Plus I agree that it makes visitors wander around and look at more then just “the place” they were going to. Although the signs do look nice I have to agree why spend the money? I certainly hope the plan isn’t to change all of the street signs as well, that would be ridiculous and a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere!

This whole “Virginia’s Cape,” thing has gone too far. I’m dumbfounded. Why is this town town trying to reinvent the wheel? Also, just put a sign up pointing the way to the Shanty so lost travelers will stop messing up the stone parking lot of the Yacht Center.

Hummm…. So no signs you say. EXCEPT YOU want one at the Yacht Club, but no where else.
      Talk about double standards?
