NOAA FISHERIES – Scientists on board NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer exploring the deep waters of the Marianas Trench captured video of a transparent, scale-less, eel-like fish never before seen alive. In the video, hear NOAA Fisheries biologist Bruce Mundy from the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center narrate the discovery.

As NOAA scientists watched the unique creature, they expressed sheer amazement over the unexpected sight.

“This is just remarkable,” marine biologist Bruce Mundy marveled as they observed the creature, “this is really an unusual sighting.”
The ‘ghost fish’ bears an uncanny resemblance to a similarly ethereal octopus that the scientific research group spotted off the coast of Hawaii back in March.
