The Academy for Lifetime Learning announced the winners of the 2018 Betty Ross STEMM Scholarships at its annual reception on June 20. The winners are Kanijah Brickhouse from Northampton High School, Hayley Marshall from Northampton High School and Stephanie Rasinski from Arcadia High School. All three graduates will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall.
This scholarship has been named the Betty Ross Academy for Lifetime Learning STEMM Scholarship in honor of the founder of The Academy for Lifetime Learning who passed away in 2014. The $1,000 scholarships are for students intending to study in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (which includes nursing) because graduates of STEMM fields have a special potential to address the most important issues facing our society. We feel these three young women will be a part of the future success of America.
The Academy for Lifetime Learning of the Eastern Shore of Virginia is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization which fulfills the adult learning objective of the Eastern Shore Community College. Members teach each other about their intellectual, artistic and outdoor passions. These awards bring to fourteen the number of scholarships awarded by The Academy for Lifetime Learning since 2013.
