The following was sent to the Mirror by frustrated parents that have children that are experiencing bullying in schools. The post began on social media and eventually made it to the desk of acting principal of Occohannock Elementary School Annette Gray Thomas. Actions were taken.
So apparently, going to faculty and administration in the schools does no good in dealing with the bullies in our schools!
Before the holidays, I approached the former (update: I guess she’s still there but on leave or something??) OES Principal about the bullying problem. I was told that she had no idea there was a problem with bullying in the classroom! She also told me that the teachers and children know she has zero-tolerance for bullying and that they have programs about bullying! She told me she would talk to the teachers, investigate the bullying in the classroom, then contact me.
I NEVER heard back from her again! At that point, I was thinking this was just my child because she seemed to act shocked as if she had never heard any issues from other parents or teachers. I have recently found out from other parents that this is NOT just my child! That they have ALL spoken with the former Principal and teachers about this! That NOTHING has been done! In fact, I’m told that some educators are even AFRAID of the bullies’ parents, so they say/do absolutely nothing!
School administration seems to lump all these bullies together in ONE classroom for ONE teacher to handle!! Instead of splitting them up! As someone who has ZERO education degree (my degrees is in Business!!) but used to substitute teach, I had full control of my classroom ALL of the time!! Even the elementary and middle school Principals knew if Mrs. G was subbing, those kids listened to me… or else! I told my kids respect is EARNED in my classroom! So I’m speaking from someone with actual classroom experience!
I’m calling out ALL NCPS administration! Do something about this!! NOW!! My child who LOVES learning, who is in OM, TAG and gets honor roll HATES going to school!! She’s f* scared to go!! I am ashamed of administration for doing NOTHING about this whatsoever!! You are endangering every one of our children who have to go through this!
Sincerely,
A very pissed off parent!

Two weeks ago, my daughter was jumped on the bus by some kids. My nine year old had to endure an all-out physical assault and defend her life. She was punched in the face, back, privates, stomach, everywhere. My tiny little five years old, Joey, tried to jump in to save his sister and got smacked around in the process. I know these kids have been punished that did this to her, but I’m here to tell you I’ll help in any way I can….it’s becoming terrorism for our kids and I have HAD enough. I’ve since taken the kids off the bus, completely.

It’s about time! Bullying has been going on forever. But nowadays it’s not the teens, it’s the younger kids. Now is the time to take REAL action.
David Moore says
Your right, Action against these so called PARENTS. Discipline starts at home period. What we have today is KIDS raising Kids, what could go wrong???????

The greatest generation we have ever known were racist and bullies….two time world war winners. We would never have won those two wars had they been soy boy modern liberals…the type portrayed on modern tv commercials and movies. Hell, every commercial they put on shows mixed couples…all by design. You don’t see eagles mixing with seagulls or seagull mixing with crows, or cats mixing with dogs in their silly commercials or movies. Think about it.
Paul Plante says
That is pure and unadulterated hogwash that the “greatest generation” were racist and bullies.
I grew up surrounded by what you are calling the “greatest generation,” and I received my values form them, and nowhere in my association with them, the Americans who fought in both WWI and WWII, did I ever observe them to be bullies or racists.
Quite the opposite, actually.
You have your history pretty well all screwed up here, because the racists and bullies were the ones the greatest generation were fighting against.

I grew up with them too. Those men would slap the taste out of your mouth quicker than men today. Look how they treated Negroes in the military in the 40’s.
You Sir,are a damned fool.

If times were segregated, as they were, those soldiers were racist and bullies. They traveled long distances to kill people wearing this color or that, in their skin or on their clothes. They were bullies and racist. They were also the greatest generation of men this country has produced. We could sure use a generation like that again.
Paul Plante says
And let me say that I’m not so foolish as to think there aren’t bullies right here in America, because in my own lifetime, I have encountered some, but I never thought of any of them as being great in any way, other than as a great danger if they happen to see you as their prey.
When I was in fifth grade, there was a kid in there who was a real bully who liked to pick on smaller kids to hurt them and make them squeal or holler or snivel as the case may be, and given that I was smaller, he chose me out to be his victim to be tortured, and physical torture it was.
The torture ended when I punched him right center of mass in his big pumpkin head and rocked him back, and then let him know that if he took a step in my direction, I was going to hit him again, which didn’t end him being a bully, but it sure as hell put an end to him being a bully in my direction.
So, as I say, while bullies certainly do exist in the United States of America, because bullies are a part of nature, look at Nazi Germany for proof of that, there is nothing of greatness about them, because if there had been, OUR American boys could never have whipped their asses right into the ground and made their rug-chewing madman of a leader commit suicide down in his underground bunker where he was cowering like a whipped dog.
