Parking Subcommittee presented proposal to Planning Commission

December 9, 2018 by 7 Comments

The parking subcommittee, which has been meeting for several months, and has been conducting surveys, presented its current proposal to the planning commission at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The presentation was an oral report by chairman Bill Stramm.

This proposed “phase I” approach does include a recommendation to change the pattern on Mason Avenue north side between Peach and midway of Pine and Harbor to pull-in angle parking.

Also, a recommendation to stripe as parallel parking stalls north side Mason Avenue from midway Peach and Plum east to the Kellogg building and Harbor to Bay was given.

Removing curbside parking on the east side of the zero-100 block of Pine Street also in the proposed “phase I” plan.

The next meeting of the subcommittee is on Monday, December 10 at 3:00 pm in the Civic Center.  The public is encouraged to attend.

Parking in Cape Charles Has improved in the last year How ever there is still much to be done , Reverse angle parking Has Improved and safer for loading Cars From pavement to trunk also the opening of Side Doors Eliminating of Parallel Parking on Mason ave has eliminated the front and rear end damage to Cars and increased the number of parking spots . First things First Parking Meters should be installed at each location at a reasonable price per 15 min to 1 hr finishing at midnight and starting at 6 am .NO Parking on the South side of Mason ave due to [A] High Pavement Level Chance of tripping And damage to passenger doors also Noise level for the Apartments now under construction.. B The Town needs a long term Parking Area Close as as can be to Beach and Town center {easy] walk THE Right of Way to the right of the WAR Memorial Entrance to parking area which leave a right of way to the Shanty Approx 1 or 2 acre site for long term Parkin $5 per DAY { NO BOATS Drop of at beach kids Park then walk to beach % min

Parking meters will kill what retail is still surviving.
It has been tried and tried, only to see shoppers switch to suburban stores that offer free parking.

Parking meters downgrade and cheapen our beautiful town streets. Please vote ‘no’ to parking meters.

With Regard to Parking meters The cost to Customers is a Minute Fraction of the tax charged on most goods Purchased . With out adding the Toll on the Bay Bridge Tunnel wear and tear plus Gas on the Car .How Long are you shopping on Mason ave one hour may be two 50 cents !$

It’s not about the 50 cents . The parking meter , especially in foul weather , is one more obstacle to doing business in town .
