Onancock, Virginia – Mighty Earth Eastern Shore will host a press conference at the Onancock Wharf as Tyson shareholders vote on a resolution urging Tyson to adopt a water stewardship policy this Thursday. The event is part of a nationwide campaign to push the country’s largest meat producer to address the widespread water contamination caused by its supply chain, which has caught shareholders’ attention.
Shareholders are expressing concern that Tyson’s failure to clean up its polluting track record is tarnishing the company’s brand among consumers and prompting towns to reject new plants, posing a risk to investor returns. Since Mighty Earth released its investigation last August revealing Tyson Foods to be a primary driver of water pollution across the country, nine communities in regions heavily impacted by nitrate water contamination, including Accomack County, have joined the #CleanItUpTyson campaign petitioning Tyson to adopt better agricultural practices.
In Springdale, AR, Jay Ford of Virginia Eastern Shorekeeper will be representing the Eastern Shore perspective on the floor of the Tyson Shareholders Meeting. Meanwhile in Onancock, VA, local speakers will present a range of perspectives on why Tyson’s recent Eastern Shore expansion is concerning and why it’s crucial that the company address water pollution.
Tyson’s CEO has pledged to re-position the company as a sustainability leader as part of its rebranding effort, and the event will demonstrate shareholders and the public interest in seeing water management be a central part of that strategy.

Thank you for spreading the word about this event!
One correction: the location will be down at the Wharf, so the correct address should just be ~2 Market Street.

Thank you so much for covering this. Here is the clean water resolution that investors are calling on Tyson shareholders to approve tomorrow. http://tricri.org/abhms-refiles-water-stewardship-resolution-tyson-foods/
The resolution cites research by Environment Maryland documenting Tyson’s pollution footprint in the Bay and beyond.

Destroy Tyson!!! Vote Democrat!!
Because that’ll fix the linked problems, which are about a THOUSAND times worse than bird waste.
But hey, poverty is cool so…………s crew Tyson!!!!!
Chas Cornweller says
Mike Kuzma Jr. Truly…what is…your major malfunction? Posting a link to sewage waste spills and flooding incidences is a far cry from private companies intentionally dumping dangerous, noxious and polluting wastes continually into the eco-systems of the largest and most productive estuary in the United States. Why? Why? Why? Would you disparage the motion of these folks to enlighten Tyson that their ways need to change for the betterment of the communities they serve? Again, why?
And listen to me carefully…no one…not one soul…intentionally vents human wastes into the bay unless they have nowhere to go. If you catch my drift. These incidences, when they take place, are accidents or acts of nature (flooding/plant malfunctions) and ARE NOT a thousand times worse than…whatever you touted. Trust me, Tyson is NOT dumping Bird Waste…SMH.
Man, it’s like dealing with a three year…but, a lot of that is going around. Mike, let me calm down (I know-too late). Your rants do nothing to further your cause (unless that cause is tantrum followed by anarchy). You only end up looking like a fool. Even the investors (those are people with money tied up in Tyson-son), even the investors want Tyson to change their act. The message is clear and simple, reduce to acceptable levels the offending effluent to the bay and surrounding headwaters. Period. Is Tyson listening…I hope so. Will they do the right thing? I hope so. Will everyone come out better for all the right reasons? I hope so. Will you respond to this admonishment?
Please don’t. Or I might resort to leaving a chicken head in your bed one night.

Keep paddling upstream, Chas.
But as a liberal, you got yours, screw the rest of the people that WORK in those industries you want to decimate.
Mike Kuzma, Jr. says
Oh, and ‘deferred maintenance’ due to funding boolsheet liberal programs instead of infrastructure is NOT an ‘accident”.
It is the END RESULT of liberal policies.
Which fouls more water than Tyson.

Today, on the eve of Tyson’s annual shareholder meeting in Springdale, Arkansas, an eye-opening letter from a Compassion Over Killing investigator has been printed in Tyson’s hometown paper, revealing a hidden, gruesome reality that birds face on Tyson-contract farms. Appearing in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this morning, the letter is penned by a COK undercover investigator who witnessed violent abuse and systemic suffering inside a Tyson-contracted farm. Click to see enlarged ad “Tomorrow in Springdale, Tyson Foods’ executives will stand before shareholders to tout the company’s progress on its vision to ‘shape the future of food. ’ However, what their narrative will fail to mention is that far from Tyson’s headquarters in Arkansas is a hidden nightmare you’d have to see to believe.
