Remembering 911: The Greatest Pitch in Baseball History

September 13, 2020 by Wayne Creed 1 Comment

Just days after the twin towers fell. 10/30/01: President George W. Bush throws out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 3 of the 2001 World Series. 100%. The Pressure. The Stress. The potential Threat.

President Bush met that moment and owned it.

Derek Jeter told the President, “Don’t bounce it, or they’ll boo you. This is Yankee Stadium.”

W is a brave man who addressed many moments well at that time.
I watched that moment, and was concerned for the President’s safety. N.Y.C. was a challenged place at that time. Emotions in that melting pot were very high.
I wish I had known then what I know now, and what Captain D. Jeter had told the President. “This is Yankee Stadium Sir. You need to make sure the throw reaches the plate or they will BOO you.”
