In Virginia, the most powerful voting block is now northern Virginia, a populace full of grifter government workers and other garbage people. With this block, as well as tons of liberal donor money from out of state (NY and Bloomberg), and with the help of the dependably incompetent GOP, the Democrats managed to gain control of both houses of the legislature.
With Governor Northam, a KKK fashion icon in charge, the Democrats promised to do away with the Second Amendment. They announced that they were going to confiscate the citizens’ guns and do other things to show those disobedient deplorables who was in charge.
Face it, real Virginians (not transplants from the north) are not le chatte Europeans, and certainly not Canadians.
Then a funny thing happened on the way to the forum. Counties, and many cities and towns committed to resisting if the state tried enforcing unconstitutional gun laws against ordinary, law-abiding citizens. We did not get the memo from our Blackface wearing Governor that we were just supposed to lie down like craven Maoist subjects.
This is Civil Disobedience. The infringement upon citizen’s Bill of Rights only works if We the People go along with it.
This did not have to happen, but because of Northam and his ilk holding the ordinary people in cultural contempt, the Democrats stupidly could not control themselves. They just had to show all those rural deplorables who was really in charge.
But they poked a sleeping bear. Those folks that attended meetings and demanded 2nd Amendment protections, all the teachers, plumbers, carpenters, watermen, and police, these gun owners never posed a threat to anyone. Many did not vote in the last election, but now they are Woke. Next time, they will come armed with their votes.
Ray Otton says
As an ex-pat NY’er I can tell you flat out, it will not be enough.
The demographics in NY closely match those here. NYC and Long Island run the state because that is where the non-native NY’ers live and they have no respect what-so-ever for upstate natives.
Heck the governor a few years back said straight out that there was no place in NY for Conservatives. You can expect the same from the next (D) governor here.
FWIW, Mr. Trump is ahead in the polls in VA by 5% against a generic (D) so he’s got a good chance to take the state and his coattails may tip the balance back to (R)’s at the federal level but locally, take it to the bank, Virginia is now lost to the (R)’s. Mostly thanks to RINO’s.
Paul Plante says
The Democratic Socialist governor of the Soviet Socialist Republic of New York City, Young Andy Cuomo, who rules New York state as it emperor, and who truly occupies the office of governor of New York state because of New York City, whose population far outstrips that of rural upstate New York, and which city is Young Andy’s power base, because he doesn’t have one north of the Tappanzee Bridge, now has a solid DEMOCRAT LOCK on all political power in the state with a Democrat senate and a Democrat assembly, and Young Andy’s hand-picked judges at the appellate level and state court of appeals level, decreed a law this year that awards illegal immigrants in New York state the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to a New York State Driver’s license, and the despotic tyrant, which is what results of a Democrat governor with a Democrat legislature and hand-picked judge becomes, threatened all the county clerks in the state, themselves elected officials answerable to the people and Constitution, not King Andy Cuomo, with serious jail time if they refused to issue valid licenses to illegal immigrants.
That we know from our county clerk who was one of those so threatened.
And there is absolutely no way for a citizen of this state to challenge him on this incredible action of his to blatantly put illegal immigrants on a political standing above that of an American citizen born here, nor do we have anything like a Cape Charles Mirror is this ****-hole state that allows us a voice of protest, as is the case down here, thanks to the Cape Charles Mirror.
We older folks joke about Young Andy wanting to re-populate the state with illegal immigrants, because unlike native New Yorkers, they can be counted on to question nothing, just obey, which for a despot like Young Andy intent of installing a socialist workers’ paradise in New York state, where everything is free makes them the ideal citizens of his new republic, at the same knowing that the joke is really on us older folks unable to get out of this state, because native-born New Yorkers who can are fleeing this lawless state, to the point where NY is going to lose congressional representation, as a result, as Young Andy Cuomo leads NY into third-world ****-hole status with him as its tin-pot dictator in the mold of say, an Idi Amin, or Moamar Gaddafi, such is what unfettered democracy in the end always produces.
And just recently, and this thanks to the Cape Charles Mirror running a long series of articles on climate change hysteria and the Green New Deal and Greta FEVER, we here in New York State learned that Young Andy and his rubber-stamp legislature rammed through a “GREEN NEW DEAL FOR NEW YORK” that was BURIED in his executive budget, so it sailed though without question and without comment and without any protest from the taxpayers who never knew it was happening, given that we are not in any privy to the governor’s executive budget, which is worked out behind closed doors in a smoke-filled room.
This is from his press release on that subject:
January 17, 2019
Albany, NY
“Governor Cuomo Announces Green New Deal Included in 2019 Executive Budget”
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the Green New Deal, a nation-leading clean energy and jobs agenda that will aggressively put New York State on a path to economy-wide carbon neutrality, is included in the 2019 Executive Budget.
The landmark plan provides for a just transition to clean energy that spurs growth of the green economy and prioritizes the needs of low- to moderate-income New Yorkers.
Video of the Governor making this announcement is available on YouTube here and in TV quality (h.264, mp4) format here.
“Climate change is a reality, and the consequences of delay are a matter of life and death.”
“We know what we must do.”
“Now we have to have the vision, the courage, and the competence to get it done,” Governor Cuomo said.
“While the federal government shamefully ignores the reality of climate change and fails to take meaningful action, we are launching the first-in-the-nation Green New Deal to seize the potential of the clean energy economy, set nation’s most ambitious goal for carbon-free power, and ultimately eliminate our entire carbon footprint.”

Will Virginia under the Democrats be next?

Imagine what could accomplish if people would care about education, healthcare, combating violent crime, homelessness as much as they care about being able to own an assault gun. Because who cares about all that when you know you can take your ar-15 out and mow down a whole bunch of people whenever you want. What better way to lift your spirits then knowing you have the means to butcher scores of people in seconds.
Note: Or you are a Jew in a Blue State and you can’t defend yourself when you are attacked in your home, deli, or Synagogue.
Long Tom says
“A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.”

You SHOULD be ashamed that you wrote this about fellow Americans, but you’re not. Luckily for us but not for you, it demonstrates the problem, pure and simple.
We cannot talk to each other as long as folks like you believe we are inherently evil and don’t care about the issues you list. Truth is, we are just as concerned with those issues and a whole host of other issues but we have different ideas on how to solve them.
Not bad ideas, not evil ideas, just different ideas, but it’s much easier to label us as depraved, fangs out killers and then you don’t have to debate us over those ideas. It’s as if you know our ideas are better and are afraid that when ours are properly presented to the general populace they are much more acceptable to middle America than the far left ideas you support.
If nothing else, you owe the audience here an apology for your over the top portrayal of regular, every day folk as the lowest form of life you can imagine simply because they hold different, main stream opinions than you do.
We won’t hold our breath.

It is hilarious that someone as deep into the Liberal mindset thinks that conservative are the ones who can’t see past their ideology.
Thanks for the reminder of who has a tolerance problem in this country.

I still have relatives in Cape Charles and Lynchburg and I still think about how my votes will affect folks there. So I truly do want to know what’s important to you.

And now there were multiple stabbings at the home of a Rabbi. So let us now ban all knives!! It is not the business of the government to decide if I can have a particular type of gun, knife, or anything else. If I want an AR-15, and I can afford one, I will have one. This is not to say I don’t care about others, or education, or anything else. If you are going to speak of guns, stick to guns. If you want to speak on education, or the lack of interest in same, stick to that. stop trying to evade issues by changing the subject. For the record, I am one of the deplorables. Trump 20/20!!!

Now do the church shooting in Texas where an armed congregant took down a potential mass shooter with one shot.
BTW, did you know CDC data reveals that LAW ABIDING citizens use firearms to defend themselves roughly 2 million times a year.
Why would you advocate for reducing that number?
Rhetorical question of course.
We know why.
Sorin Varzaru says
“BTW, did you know CDC data reveals that LAW ABIDING citizens use firearms to defend themselves roughly 2 million times a year.
Why would you advocate for reducing that number?”
Like with anything else in life, things are rarely black and white. I support law abiding citizen’s right to own some weapons for self defence. But I believe we have to balance that with a set of rules that minimizes the fallout (red flag, gun registration, etc). Other countries manage to have 10 to 50 TIMES less murders and the only real difference is the gun culture.
Paul Plante says
NO, Sorin, it’s NOT the what you call “gun culture,” whatever on earth that might be.
There is not a “gun culture” in this country that is killing people with guns – it is WHACKOS with too easy access to guns, often bought for them by their liberal mother, that are killing people with guns.
Stone killers like Democrat Willie Horton kill people because they are psychopaths.
But the liberals in America, who for decades have pleaded with every other country, including Cuba with the Marielito Boat-Lift, to give to the Democrat party in this country their tired, their poor, their huddled masses who know nothing of liberty or freedom, and especially the wretched refuse of their teeming shore; send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to the Democrat party in the United States of America to build up the Democrat voter base in this country, which those other countries with lower murder rates gladly did, and why not, start to feel sorry about stone killers like poor Willie having to be locked away in a prison cell for murdering somebody, so they want these people out in society with the rest of us, who are prey to them, because that is what Democrat Social Justice demands.
Said another way, the Democrats wanted a nation of lunatics that they could then exploit and control and the nations of the earth who wanted to get rid of their murderous lunatics and thugs were damn glad of an opportunity to let them come here, and now that they have gotten them, people like you are surprised that they are out there acting like lunatics killing people.
Were you perhaps expecting something different?
tokenny says
“BTW, did you know CDC data reveals that LAW ABIDING citizens use firearms to defend themselves roughly 2 million times a year”
You do realize that that is a meaningless statistic and that the CDC actually pulled that study from the 90’s. Of more interest would be of those that used a firearms to defend themselves how many were wounded or killed.
Before you idolized the Texas incident, look at the video. The first person shot was the man pulling his weapon from his back. He may have been alive today if he had put his hands out stretched and talked to the guy. There was no way he was going to get the drop on the bad guy. And by the way, the man who dropped him? Ex-law enforcement who actually knew what he was doing.
Ray Otton says
Hey, pick yer stats, any stats, we got ’em. Problem is, no matter the set of stats used, you are arguing for more deaths by taking away the means of prevention from LAW ABIDING citizens..
The DOJ investigated firearm violence from 2007–2011. During that time a total of 338,700 defensive gun uses in both violent attacks and property crimes where a victim was involved. That’s an average of 67,740 defensive gun uses every year.
The significance is that while an average 67,740 individuals use a gun in self-defense each year, an average 37,461 people die in motor vehicle accidents in the United States each year.
Before you start yelling “Strawman!!!” think of it this way. If 37,000 people are dying annually from car accidents, then saving nearly twice that many people each year through the use of firearms is simply stunning.
As to the actual number, if you want to be pedantic, the DOJ findings about defensive gun uses are considered very conservative.
A 2013 study by the CDC conducted in coordination with the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council found that defensive use of guns by crime victims is as common as offensive uses by criminals. Estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million.
The most comprehensive study ever conducted about defensive gun use in the United States was a 1995 survey published by criminologist Gary Kleck in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. This study reported between 2.1 and 2.5 million defensive gun uses every year.
However, none of these numbers mean anything to you. Whether the number is 67,000 or 3 million or anywhere in between, you will do whatever you can to dismiss defensive gun uses as insignificant.
There are anywhere from 67,000 to 3 million people a year who would heartily disagree with you.
And hey, if it will save even one child, shouldn’t we be encouraging legal gun use?
Paul Plante says
This conversation reminds me ever so much of good old Democrat-to-the-bone William R. Horton, born August 12, 1951. who was an American convicted felon who, while serving a life sentence for murder without the possibility of parole, was nonetheless the beneficiary of a Massachusetts Democrat weekend furlough program for convicted Democrat murderers like William, because he was shut away from the comfort of human society in prison like he was for preying on the society the Democrats felt he really should be a part of, given that prison company, is well, hey, let’s face it, not all that intellectual, no insults intended.
So the Democrats gave William a weekend pass, and big surprise, William not only did not return from his furlough, but ultimately, being a good Democrat as he was, William was able to GET A GUN, notwithstanding he was a convicted murderer, and ultimately, our SWEET DEMOCRAT WILLIAM committed assault, armed robbery, and rape before being captured and sentenced in Maryland where he remains incarcerated.
Now, if his victims had been able to get guns as easily as a convicted murderer out of prison on a weekend pass, perhaps they might still be alive.
But as we all know, each day, while thanks to the Democrats, a murderer like William Horton can get out of prison on a weekend pass and pick up a gun, just like that, each day it gets harder and harder for HONEST PEOPLE who aren’t Democrats or criminals or murderers to defend themselves against the William Hortons of the world, and such it is, which seems to make Sorin happy, anyway, and by the way, it’s William Horton, not Willy, because that upsets William being called Willie, to wit:
“The fact is, my name is not ‘Willie.'”
“It’s part of the myth of the case.”
“The name irks me.”
“It was created to play on racial stereotypes: big, ugly, dumb, violent, black — ‘Willie’.”
“I resent that.”
“They created a fictional character — who seemed believable, but who did not exist.”
“They stripped me of my identity, distorted the facts, and robbed me of my constitutional rights.”

Spoken like a true Democrat, Sorin, with plenty of passion and emotion to show us that even though the dude is a stone killer, he has feelings and emotions too, and the dude really just needs a good hug!
So, won’t it be a great world when the only people who have guns are the murderers like William Horton?
Sorin Varzaru says
Paul, I have a hard time following your lengthy posts. Make your point in a single paragraph and I’ll reply.
Happy new year.
Paul Plante says
I wasn’t making any point at all, Sorin!
To the contrary, as an older person who remembers a lot of history that maybe you don’t remember, I was just musing, which when you get older, you might find yourself doing, if you can manage to keep your mind intact.
That’s all – just musing.
And the very best of the New Year to you, Sorin.
Ray Otton says
“So, won’t it be a great world when the only people who have guns are the murderers like William Horton?”
There are 100 million LAW ABIDING gun owners in American with 300 million guns and over a trillion rounds of ammo.
5 million of those gun owners are ex-military.
They ain’t getting the guns.
MJM says
Well I the believe the writer is missing 2 very important points. One being the fact that the votes have already been cast, our legislators are elected, and they are poised to do whatever they want. Two, I don’t think they listen to “The People” any more. They are power hungry and listen to their party leaders, even as they moonwalk to the state house in white robes.
Stopping the tsunami of the reckless, progressive and socialist tide will take more than us sending our legislators a written, organized complaint about their pending legislation and voting them out next time won’t fix the damage they do, and I will not be quoted on what I think the answer is, but it ain’t pretty.
tokenny says
Ray, you tried to use the motor vehicle deaths example multiple times when talking about gun violence or fatalities and each time you do it fails. I believe the last time I explained to you the differences
1. A motor vehicles purpose is for transportation
2. A gun’s purpose is to kill.
3. The definition of an accident is -an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury; an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause.
This time maybe this tact will work. Motor Vehicle deaths are down and have been declining significantly since 1970’s Why?
1.Drunk drivers are killing less people
2.People are wearing seatbelts more often
3.We are driving less
4.Cars are getting better at avoiding crashes
5,Airbags have made crashes much safer
So tell me what changes have been made to make guns safer???
Again, I’ll point to the video that you mentioned in your first post. The individual with the gun wasn’t safe and I’ll go one step further and say that he escalated the situation by reaching for his firearm. Imagine if he didn’t have a weapon on him. The only thing he could have done was talked to the guy. Maybe the guy just wanted the money and had no intentions of killing anyone. We’ll never know but if you think you’ll be safer with 6 million people carry you’ll be disappointed
Austin Bragg says
Want to create a gun-free America in 5 easy steps?
Here’s all there is to it:
Step 1: Elect. For a gun-free America, the first thing you’ll need is two-thirds of Congress. So elect a minimum of 67 Senators and 290 Representatives who are on your side.
Step 2: Propose. Then, have them vote to propose an amendment to the Constitution which repeals Second Amendment gun rights for all Americans.
Step 3: Ratify. Then convince the legislators of 38 states to ratify that change.
At this point, the Second Amendment is history, but you’ve done nothing to decrease gun violence. All you’ve done is remove the barrier for Congress to act.
Step 4: Legislate. You need to enact “common sense” reform.
You can try to do what Australia did and…ban all guns? That’s not at all what they did, but whatever, fuck it. Go big or go home, right?
It will have to be passed by Congress and signed by the president.
Great! The law is passed and guns are now illegal. The only thing left to do is…
Step 5: Enforce. Guns won’t just disappear because you passed a law. You need to confiscate some 350 million guns scattered among 330 Million Americans.
Sure, you can try a buy-back program like Australia, but like Australia that will still leave behind anywhere from 60 percent to 80 percent of privately owned firearms.
The rest you have to take.
You’ll need the police, the FBI, the ATF or the National Guard—all known for their nuanced approach to potentially dangerous situations—to go door-to-door, through 3.8 million square miles of this country and take guns, by force, from thousands, if not, millions of well-armed individuals. Many of whom would rather start a civil war than acquiesce.
So inevitably gun violence, which is currently at a historic low, will skyrocket.
But that is how you get a gun-free America in five easy steps.
Ray Otton says
Sorry, the comparison is valid since you guys are always going on about making the world a safer place, be it the environment, guns, cars, whatever……………well, safe once you’re born, but I digress.
It seems you are are reading the numbers fed to you by gun control groups and they are erroneous.
We know for certain that gun control organizations make simple mathematical errors to incorrectly add up the firearm deaths so that it seems they exceeded motor vehicle deaths.
In addition, they make questionable decisions on what to include in their numbers.
The firearm homicide numbers include justifiable homicides. Should it really count when an officer has to kill in the line of duty?
How about when when a private citizen defends his own life or the lives of others?
They include things like BB gun vandalism on school property under the category of school shootings.
This is the problem when discussing gun control, the inability of gun control advocates to present unadulterated data.
But there’s a more basic problem when comparing firearm and motor vehicle deaths. The causes of death are very different. 99.4% of car deaths were accidental in nature. In contrast, 2% of gun deaths were accidental. So, apples to apples, guns are much safer than autos.
There have been a lot of efforts to reduce accidental motor vehicle deaths but despite increasingly stringent safety regulations on drivers, cars and roads, accidental motor vehicle deaths have fallen more slowly than have accidental firearm deaths.
You take a simplistic view that though we’ve made a serious effort to strictly regulate drivers, cars and roads but we’ve done none of this for guns. However, you will not explain why accidental gun deaths have fallen more than accidental motor vehicle deaths.
Now as to your assumptions of what happened to the poor guy who died.
According to informed sources the perp had a long criminal history and was described as “battling a demon” and “not nice to anyone.”
His criminal past included charges of assault, theft, arson and possession of an illegal weapon in Texas, Oklahoma and New Jersey.
In addition, the church members knew he was angry with them because he wanted money and they would only give him food.
At the service he was wearing a disguise, including a fake beard and wig, when he stood up, pulled a shotgun from his clothing and opened fire, killing two people.
And you think they could have talked him out of his plans? heh, need a bridge? Got one for sale in AOC’s district.
Furthermore, whether or not you realize it, you are actually placing the guy’s demise on HIM for trying to stop the murderer.
I swear, you are awful people.
The more likely scenario is that the poor guy died trying to get his weapon out because he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that there was no talking to the crazy guy with the gun.
The bigger question is, why are we still fighting these battles?
Because the only solution your minds can comprehend is gun control. You can’t even acknowledge that there are potential solutions out there that don’t inhibit the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.
You don’t want to do anything except restrict gun ownership in various ways, which won’t stop the violence we’re talking about and makes criminals out of law abiding citizens.
I’m not saying you should agree with it. I mean, you should since it’s the truth, but I don’t want to force you to accept reality.
Disagree? Fine we can have that debate. However, the debate does not include the supposition that we’re fine with kids being killed or anything of the sort, which is what we are constantly accused of.
That pisses us off for one very good reason. The truth is that no one wants kids to be murdered.
This battle will rage on because we’re sick and damn tired of being presented as being pro-child murder. It happened right here in the CCM pages with another Liberal contributor.
It’s especially rankling coming from the folks who support unrestricted abortion to the tune of 40 million DEAD BABIES since 1972. Boy, talk about “For the children”.
So, we’re not about to budge a single inch because you’re not willing to listen to us about anything. You’re too busy vilifying us, pretending we’re in favor of things like mass shootings and dead kids.
This is nothing more than an attempt to bully us into silence. It’s pretending that you’re somehow better than us and trying to badger us into complying with your wishes.
The thing is, we’re not going anywhere. We’re a bunch of pain-in-the-ass, in-your-face, freedom-loving Americans who aren’t going to go to roll over and die.
We’re here and we’re going to keep fighting. We have no choice. The only alternative from our perspective is to allow people like you to restrict gun ownership further and make the problem worse.
As with pretty much every other Liberal policy we can name.

Just a couple of observations
1. I haven’t mentioned anything about restricting guns so lets not change this into a another discussion. You are arguing that carry a weapon makes it a safer world.
2. The CDC and the DOJ and whatever other agency you named about the use of a gun in self defense. The problem with those studies is that there is no reliable data. The study was a self reported study so they were unable to confirm any of the reports. That’s why the CDC pulled the study
3.I can’t believe you are trying to compare motor vehicle accidents with gun related accidents. If you want to try that then you need to figure out the number of trips vehicles make in a day and then times it by 365. Next figure out how many times a gun gets touched and then tell me the % of actually gun deaths. Not sure you know statistics but you will be safer driving in a vehicle then touching a gun.
4.Am i placing the demise of that poor guy on himself? Yeah. It sounds cold, I know but that is the consequence of carrying. Did he have to pull his weapon? No. Did he ever have a chance? Nope He was the first one shot. He engaged the crazy . He may have been able to deescalate the situation. We’ll never know. Somehow you think having 6 million people carrying will make this a safer world. Love to see what your response will be when in self defense someone pulls their weapon, fires, misses their target and hits an innocent person.
5. Legislation and the auto industry moved to make vehicles safer. When does that happen with the gun industry? Tell me what they have done to make the world safer from guns falling into the wrong hands?
Lets be real, 5,950,000 of those gun toting people will not be able to handle their weapon correctly in a stressful situation. Deer and ducks don’t shoot back and silhouettes just hang there. So , no you won’t be safer carrying a weapon. It’s a false sense of security.

And in one of those freakish cosmic confluences of events that seem to be attracted to tokenny like all the lint in a room swarming towards whoever is wearing a black sweater, just today, the Albany, Times Union had a story entitled “Albany man accused of woman’s death set free under new bail rules” by Robert Gavin on January 3, 2020 where we have this candid view of the madness being inflicted on the native-born citizens of the corrupt third-world ****-hole known as the Soviet Socialist Republic of New York City by Democratic Socialist tyrant Young Andy Cuomo, who is re-making this state in his image into a mecca for illegal immigrants and felons, to wit:
ALBANY — It did not take long for New York’s criminal justice reforms to impact the Capital Region.
Or, for lawyers on opposing sides to clash bitterly over them.
On Thursday, Albany County District Attorney David Soares highlighted the release of 52-year-old Paul Barbaritano — a man charged with recklessly choking and stabbing a woman to death in a Brevator Street apartment last July — as a tragic example of the failure of bail and discovery reforms swept into law in last year’s state budget.
end quotes
Yes, indeed, “swept into law in last year’s state budget!”
More like well-hidden from public scrutiny in last year’s state budget, which is how this Democrat Socialist tyrant Young Andy Cuomo is stripping us of our Constitution and its rights as he tips the balance over in favor of the illegal immigrants and felons who form his political base, which takes us back to that story, as follows:
Police and prosecutors say that in early July, Barbaritano wrapped a nylon-styled belt around Jennings’ neck, tied multiple knots, tightened it and plunged a knife into her throat.
She was found July 5 inside 8 Brevator St.
The fourth-term district attorney, a Democrat up for re-election in November, addressed reporters after the court appearance of Barbaritano, who since July had been held in the county jail charged with killing Jennings, the mother of a 3-year-old son.
“Anywhere in the country, any jurisdiction in the country, this is a case where an individual will be held pre-trial in a correction facility,” Soares said, “while still maintaining his right to a trial and all of the rights that he’s afforded under the constitution of that state as well as the federal government.”
“(Anywhere) but in New York state.”
“And this is the new reality that we’re all trying to cope with.”
Senate Republican Leader John Flanagan issued a statement slamming the new reforms, which were passed by a Democratic-controlled Legislature and governor, and the release of Barbaritano.
“Another day, another individual accused of a heinous crime released back out into the community where they are free to offend again thanks to the radical policies of Democrats in the Senate and Assembly,” a Suffolk County Republican.
He added that “2020 has only begun, we are already starting to see the real-life consequences of this dangerous new law.”

Reminds me a lot of good old Willie Horton, the murderer the Democrat released from prison on a furlough so he could go out and get himself a latte and some intellectual stimulation, which takes us back to that story and a real tear-jerker, it is, to wit:

Okay, people, an accident, everybody has a little accident every now and then, don’t they?

The two had been using drugs, according to the defense, and knew one another for some time.
Barbaritano had self-inflicted wounds.
“He was absolutely trying to save this woman’s life.”
“What happened was the result of a horrific accident — a perfect storm of tragic events,” Sokol told the Times Union.
“He never intended to hurt her.”

Right, tokenny?
