Nassawadox, VA – Riverside announced plans to expand medical and health services on the Eastern Shore. Riverside will open a primary care medical office in Northampton County to include urgent care services through extended hours and laboratory services. The potential of adding radiological services is being evaluated. This primary care office will be located at the current site of the Riverside Shore Cancer Center which will be remodeled to accommodate these new services. Plans are to provide a patient centered model of care for residents of all ages. The medical office is conveniently located mid-Shore providing easy access to all residents of the Eastern Shore.
“We believe these efforts will meet a significant portion of the need and provide additional access points to citizens in Northampton,” stated John Peterman, Administrator of Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and Vice President of Riverside Shore Health Services. “The medical office will open after we move to our new campus, which is slated to occur in either late 2016 or early 2017, and after we remodel the primary/urgent care space.”
Riverside made a commitment in 2010 to provide health care to all citizens of the Eastern Shore including building a new hospital facility for the community at a cost of $80 million. Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital will offer 52 private inpatient rooms of which 10 are critical care and six are maternity. An Emergency Department will have all private treatment rooms including a trauma room and expanded outpatient services. The cancer center will provide the newest technology in radiation therapy, and the medical office building will be home to a number of specialists and primary care providers.
Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital is actively collaborating with Eastern Shore Rural Health which provides significant primary, pediatric and dental care. Riverside has made significant donations to Northampton and Accomack counties for medical equipment and training opportunities. And finally, Riverside has increased the convenience and access to primary care for residents by offering Saturday hours at both its Cape Charles and Nassawadox primary care locations.
