Shanty to Expand for Next Season

January 13, 2019 by Wayne Creed 2 Comments

As many of us know, during the summer months, trying to get a table can be a long and excruciating process.

To alleviate that, the Shanty is looking to expand. Jon Dempster submitted a proposal to expand on the northwest side by some 800 feet.

The proposed addition will be located directly adjacent to the existing three to four-foot fence adjacent to the existing walkway. Existing mechanical units will be moved to the back (east) side of  the addition (away from the existing walkway), providing a visual screen between the walkway and the mechanical units that does not currently exist.

There is a gravel driveway where loading and unloading currently take place, which will be partially removed with the proposed addition. The existing transformers are proposed to remain in their current location.

Harbor Development Certificate was approved with the following
conditions:

  1. Addition shall be in substantial compliance with the site plan submitted in the application packet dated November 23, 2018
  2. A vegetative screen shall be provided between the loading area and the walkway along the north side of the addition that extends to the end of the gravel driveway (where the two existing gravel driveways intersect).

Staff will present the required informational summary report to Town Council at the January 31 special meeting, with Town Council taking action in February.

Expand by 800 feet or 800 square feet? 800 feet would run it to Randolph Avenue!

Now we have another Problem PARKING ?? Who is Responsible for the upkeep of the parking. It is used mainly by the Shanty customers. Although Boat owners also have use of the Parking I Would Recommend that the cost be shared between Town & Shanty 75% Shanty 25 % Town. Last summer it was a mass of Pot holes and weeds.
