Shore native Skylar Demarino aka SkyDxddy just dropped a brilliant new cut, ‘Battlefield’. The song is gorgeously lyrical and enforces the feelings many women have regarding the recent Roe v. Wade decision. Battlefield uses a range of subtle synths, adding another layer to bass and beat combinations that don’t take away from the lyrics’ honesty and intelligence but instead build a steely, thematic texture. There is ferocious energy here, but it is SkyDxxdy’s lush, dextrous, even luxurious vocals that give the track its layered and nuanced authenticity.
The track already has over 21,000 streams.
The brilliance does not come as a surprise to those of us that grew up with Skylar. She cut her teeth right here in Cape Charles, performing on the Palace Theatre stage and at many local venues, festivals, and events. She was what this writer always called a triple threat: dancer, singer, and actor. By the age of 10, she had already written her first song and took to the stage performing, competing, and raising money for local charities.
While a wonderful actor, singing was always her passion, and now her career is breaking the mold.
SkyDxddy is managed by grammy nominated producer Jeff Blue.
Their first viral release “Triggered” (2019) was received well among music bloggers, and influencers. It was the follow-up feature “Puppet Master” (2020) that took SkyDxddys brand viral. In less than 2 weeks the single racked up hundreds of paint challenge videos which eventually earned them over 300k followers on the social media giant, TikTok.
However SkyDxddys next single “Madness” would take their sound global. Released in May of 2020, “Madness” climbed up in streams when it was discovered by the Nightcore community on Youtube. Raking in over 1 million views. It gained the attention of renowned international producer Epidemix, where he created the first ever “SkyDxddy” type beat which would soon become the foundation for their latest single “Monsters Ink“.
In the winter of 2021 SkyDxddy releases their new single “Hold Me” with the producer of Pop Hit “Overwhelmed” Marky Styles, co-produced by Grant Dawson.
SkyDxddys productions knows no boundaries delivering intense alternative rock to melodic future pop anthems. SkyDxddy is clearly one to watch out for with their unique vocals, powerful lyrics and cult like fanbase.

If you say so. Not my cup of tea. Looking at her Bio she checks all the boxes. It seems like she will be popular as victim culture is quite popular this season.
SkyDxddy is hip-hop artist Skylar DeMarino. She originally started singing country but after experiencing a brutal sexual assault she took to distancing herself from her country roots after realizing just how misogynistic it truly is. She soon ran off to college hoping to move forward with her dream to be on Broadway. Where things weren’t exactly different, being openly gay, kid to a mom that cleans houses and a dad on disability. She quickly learned the system was stacked against her in more ways than one. With no choice but to drop out. She decided to take her voice else where and start a movement for women.
Girl says
Just say you’re a misogynistic creep who doesn’t want to held accountable and move on. Being a victim isn’t a culture nor are people speaking out because it’s trendy. It’s about healing and holding people accountable. If you don’t like that stay in your cave and ignore victims like you always have. So sit your old ass down and hush. Your generation shouldn’t be speaking seeing as you old folk created majority of the issues and continued hate in this world.
Boy says
“I think she is talented and wish her the best”.
Paul Plante says
WOW, that’s a real lot of honest-to-gosh, down-home 99% pure vituperation that, literally scalding the skin right off of Boy’s back!
Some good lines there.
Boy writes some good music.
Perhaps her or shey could turn those lines into a top selling Hip-Hop song for you.
Boy says
” So sit your old ass down and hush”
I think I’ll stand and speak! I still have that right.
Boy says
Just to be clear. I really like SkyDxddy, I like her music. She an impressive artist. I can relate to what she’s saying and appreciate her honest passion . A lot of us have had abuse in our lives. So if my words offended, I’m sorry to hear that. I’m a work in progress and sometimes get it wrong. My only point at the time, a year ago. Was ,I wish they were marketing her and her talent and not other things.
Boy says
All that said. I would never market my music based on my sexual preference, political views, or how I was once a victim. That was the point of my original post. Sheeesh!
Paul Plante says
Notwithstanding, sexual preferences, political views, or how the singer was once and still remains a victim are very popular themes in modern music today, and it is the market, afterall, that ultimately dictates what should be written and what should get air-play.
And I’m seeing a HUGE opportunity for a rock-a-billy/Hip-Hop crossover by Taylor Swift with these poignant lyrics provided us by Girl above here, who seems to have the victim thing down pat, to wit:
Just say you’re a misogynistic creep who doesn’t want to held accountable and move on.
end quote
Now, that to me right there is some real dynamite writing, raw and to the point, with a feminine hint of gansta rap to it, which should increase audience appeal by going out to a greater demographic.
And look at the rest of this stuff:
Being a victim isn’t a culture nor are people speaking out because it’s trendy.
It’s about healing and holding people accountable.
If you don’t like that stay in your cave and ignore victims like you always have.
So sit your old ass down and hush.
Your generation shouldn’t be speaking seeing as you old folk created majority of the issues and continued hate in this world.
end quotes
Stuff rhymes great, has a good beat, the words roll off the tongue, and it is easy to dance to, so, I’m thinking platinum, myself, and all that is now lacking is a catchy tune to back the lyrics up. something along the lines of the theme from The Beverly Hillbillies!
Boy says
Spot on Paul. She did kill it with that post. Being the recluse that I am and not one for confrontation. I would prefer to move on. But “Girl” did make me pause and question my position. Well done “Girl” I must say.
Paul Plante says
Hey, wow, I’m a recluse, myself!
A no-stress way to live.
I was a people person once, but coming into actual contact with people brought a quick end to that phase.
Now, as Lynyrd Skynyrd said in “Call me the breeze,” I ain’t hiding from nobody, nobody’s hiding from me, oh, that’s the way it’s supposed to be!
Paul Plante says
She has Karmela Harris in her corner, anyway:
Harris was widely mocked on social media after speaking at a Roe v. Wade panel on Tuesday and using gender pronouns to introduce herself to others seated at the table.
“Good afternoon,” Harris said.
“I want to welcome these leaders for coming in to have this very important discussion about some of the most pressing issues of our time.”
“I am Kamala Harris, my pronouns are she and her.”
“I am a woman sitting at the table wearing a blue suit.”
Welcome to the new world order.
Hi, Karmela!
I am a heteronormative white man sitting at the computer wearing shorts and a tank top because it is quite warm discussing some of the most pressing issues of our time, of which you are one along with Joe Biden, and my pronouns are he and him.

I just LOVE how people like to think that just because they can read a bio, they can read between all the lines and know the whole story.
Boy says
Mary, I did more than read her bio. I took the time and listened to her music online. I actually read and listened to her lyrics. I think she is talented and wish her the best. When you make statements like about not being able to make in the theater because you’re openly gay. That just doesn’t ring true. The theater? Or you stopped playing country music because of how misogynistic it truly is. Then you switch to Hip Hop. Misogynistic?, no not hip hop. Well a true country music fan has the right to speak out.
I’m sad to see such a talented artist falling for the woke nonsense. It’s a flawed career path and most Americans are weary of it..
They just canceled the release of Batgirl a 70 million dollar movie. That should tell you something. SkyDxddy is talented and it seems she more than capable of reinventing her self. I hope her next reincarnation is her own journey as an artist and not the popular nonsense peddled today.
MARY A COX says
I’m glad you wish her the best. That makes me feel better about your comments. I to feel the same about the “woke”. Not a fan. She can sing just about any kind of music, she’s very talented. Hopefully reinventing herself doesn’t mean she has to follow a different type of music, which I would have no problem with. She has a good head on her shoulders and has awesome, loving parents that have supported her and wanted nothing but the best for her. I hope that she can be one of those that we as a community can look to one day and say, ” wow she is from our little hometown the ESVA” and all of be proud.
boy says
Mary, Thanks for the reply, I really appreciated your comments. I’ll lighten my tone in the future and maybe my” woke” comments were an over reaction and shouldn’t of been directed solely at her. It’s a pet peeve of mine lately. I think we’re all going through a lot of growing pains lately. I was a professional musician and recording artist for over 20 years. I was more than happy to see an artist of her caliber from the shore breaking out. Once again, I do see her talent and do wish her only the best.
Cheers and thanks again

I think a lot of people get the misconception now a days, where here intent with that song was just how she was feeling, and dealing with mental health were taught to express how we are feeling and not suppress it. It shows vulnerability, it shows passion, and it resonates with a lot people. I wouldn’t consider her “woke” artist I would consider her woke to self growth and better herself while trying to help people who also suffer from similar life situations. I also, believe she felt the sense of negativity that comes becoming more known and more haters, and for someone who deals with trauma that can be painstaking. So, I think her progression has been nothing short of amazing. I also think she expresses herself appropriately and effectively for herself, and her so called “cult” following which I would consider people that just understand it as an art of expression. I believe she is handling the haters and everything quite well and won’t let her haters and her past trauma bully her from creating and expressing how she feels. As she knows, she is touching and has this great big platform to spread this positive message, which some don’t see the positive in the song battlefield, but get pushed around most of your life and standing up for yourself is enlightening. The majority of inspirational people usually rose up from there own personal hell to become a self made Saint or angel so to speak. Just like the fiery Phoenix rose, I believe she will continue to rise. And she has the capability, to be the female version of Eminem, while mixing in Adele’s voice, and a Madonna swag and versatility. It will ultimately be just surrounding herself with the right team, and people willing to share her burden of fame, while supporting her and keeping her positive focused and keep the passion alive in her heart. I hope she does get her girlfriend some help as that can build tension in there relationship, as the manager will need to keep her accountable but also keep her supported and loved. That can be a very hard line to walk at time for loved ones and can be detrimental to any relationship. It also takes a team of support and to press the issue of growth and expansion of her own brand. I think we’re just watching the beginnings of a superstar though. The only thing is her fan base right now is obviously younger as mental health issues and expressing it is young, the generations before basically got told to hold it in and suck it up. The reason why I mention this is the younger generation isn’t as financial sound and don’t have the money to invest in her to help her continuing spreading the brand. Once the financials catches up and proper business and brand management, then buckle up cause that rockets going to the moon!
