Virginia Eastern Shorekeeper applauds Governor-elect Northam for requesting that Virginia be removed from the 5-year offshore drilling plan. Growing up on the Eastern Shore, Northam knows firsthand how critical our waters and beaches are to our economy and quality of life.
Additionally, we want to thank the Governor-elect for calling on The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to hold public hearings in the shoreline communities that would be impacted the most by offshore drilling. BOEM needs to hear directly from the businesses and citizens who will bear the risk if this reckless plan should move forward. Currently, the only public hearing scheduled will take place nearly 100 miles away from our coast, in Richmond.
Governor-elect Northam has been a leader in the effort to protect our coasts since first elected to the State Senate in 2007. His unwavering commitment to our military and NASA operations, our seafood industry, our tourism, and our environment has helped protect Virginia coasts and citizens for the past decade. Today he has made clear that as our Governor, he will continue to lead the effort to keep Virginia’s coasts clean for generations to come.”

we need jobs, good paying jobs, we should drill offshore to bring to Eastern Shore badly good lasting paying jobs that give benefits to help families here to a better standard of living. also will lower our energy bills, (driving, heating, air condition etc), also draw new business to the shore, I like to see an energy pipeline to reduce the monopoly control of corrupt energy supplies here. Our Governor elect is a puppet for those to fill their pockets on the taxpayer’s behalf and I hate that. Trucks to carry the crude drilled offshore oil to the refineries in Maryland or other refineries, just imagine all the people that will work and come off Government Assistance, families can now save for their children college, my God why would our Governor oppose his people in Virginia that luxury only that he is unfit for the job.

Mr. Sacco,
The Governor will oppose this for one reason and one reason only:
NOVA demands it.
