Plans are well underway for our inaugural Paws Down Hoe Down on Sept. 17, a fun-filled evening to benefit the animals at the SPCA Eastern Shore shelter.
The walls of Mimosa Barn in Cheriton will be filled with the sounds of The Reasoners, a local band featuring Red Miller on vocals and keyboard, Dave Parks on vocals and drums, and Chris Nacy on the harmonica.
Jerry Fitchett will be on hand throughout the evening with four couples to give line dancing lessons to anyone who wants to learn or needs a refresher.
In between sets of dancing, compete for prizes in Trivia Challenge, hosted by former Jeopardy contestant Eric Hack.
Your taste buds will be in for a treat throughout the evening with Tommy Hines’s renowned barbecue and all the trimmings, but be sure to save space for the entries in the dessert contest because they promise to be mouthwatering.
Five local bakeries are providing the desserts for the contest. Get ready for tasty creations from Shore Good Bakery in Exmore, Kate’s Kupboard in Belle Haven, Anointed Hands Bakery in Onley, the Corner Bakery in Onancock, and Heavenly Creations in Onley.
The evening will end with the drawing for the winner in our big football weekend getaway raffle for two tickets to see the Baltimore Ravens play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Baltimore on Oct. 1. The prize package, valued at $1200, also includes a 2-night stay in a queen suite at Spring Hill Suites in the Inner Harbor and dinner at Supano’s Prime Steakhouse, Seafood & Pasta.
We are still adding sponsors but want to thank all of the businesses and individuals who are already participating as sponsors of the Hoe Down. They include Mimosa Barn, Tyson Foods, Integrity Transportation, Tommy Hines, Atlantic Animal Hospital, and WESR as well as the Club Car Cafe, Pep-Up, and the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club.
Tickets for the event will go on sale in early July and will be available at the SPCA Eastern Shore shelter, the Book Bin, and Rayfield’s Pharmacy.
