Thelma Peterson Enters NPRs Tiny Desk Contest

Local Artist Thelma Peterson has entered “Tiny Desk Contest” with her original song Beaches of Normandy, as a tribute to her dad, Cary L. Jarvis, who landed D-Day, first wave, on Omaha Beach. Thelma told the Mirror, “The song also for all who have bravely served our country to ensure its freedom.  I wrote the song after returning from Normandy with my dad for the D-Days 60th landing anniversary. It was a very emotional trip, and I wrote this song soon after returning. I don’t perform it often, as it is a hard one to make it through without choking up.”

Thank you! Most touching, very nicely done. Memories and emotions of what was done for us, best not forgotten. Perhaps the most proper tribute, written in song.

A wonderful tribute to our freedom fighters. This reminded me of my Dad, he was in Vietnam, but never told stories of it because WAR is horrific. The men and women of our military want to forget but it never leaves them. You took a terrible unforgettable memory and changed into a beautiful song!! Awesome job!
