At the Parking Ad Hoc Committee (The Committee) meeting held on December 10, 2018, the Committee discussed the possibility of proposing parking recommendations for the Planning Commission and Town Council to take into consideration in Phases, with this proposal considered Phase One. Reverse angle parking has been in place for a few years, and there have been many complaints about its user-friendliness compared to the benefits it offers. The intent of reverse angle parking is to provide a safer method of parking by having the parked car pull out instead of back out of the spot.
Taking a page from China, the town has come up with a new approach to stacking cars in parking that creates a whopping 70% more space compared to conventional parking in a given area. Chongqing Municipality in Southwest China recently launched a new concept for parking cars, which uses an inclined frame creating additional parking spots. According to a Xinhua report, the new parking system can create space for 40 cars in a space where conventional systems would only allow 24.
The ad hoc parking committee has noted that this will not only make parking safer, but it would increase the
Each car on the frame will be lifted automatically and stacked parallel at a fixed slope angle, with the number of parking spots increasing from 24 to 40.
The inclined parking frame is also equipped with 12 sensors and eight ranging radars, enabling the frame to avoid obstacles and stop automatically.
With rapidly increasing numbers of vehicles in Cape Charles, residents and visitors often find it difficult to secure parking spots in convenient locations. This approach could be the breakthrough the town has been looking for.
This satire was sent to the Mirror by the funniest and most intelligent man in town, Thomy (I am quite content doing very little slowly) from Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore of Saltwater Virginia, where there is nothing to do and we do it all day long.

This would ruin the small town charm of our community. There is plenty of parking on the streets behind mason. It’s called walking people. I really hope this doesn’t happen.

Leave it to the Chinese to come up with that solution. Their water table isn’t as high, or the back 1/3 of our car would be submerged.
Joseph Francis Corcoran says
As great as the Chinese solution is , I saw a better one in Dhaharan , Saudi Arabia .
It’s a two-part system . The first part is big wheel like a Ferris Wheel with parking pads instead of seats . The second part is big fork lift .
If you don’t put your car on the Ferris Wheel, the fork lift guy takes your car .

Very expensive solution

Negative on this “unsightful machination.
Inclined auto will cause gas to seep.
out of carbuerator, thereby stalling engine.
Aft skirt will invite homeless, canines, etc.
Newly bought groceries, etc, will slide to floor.
Breakout a golf cart to convey patrons from
out back to out front. Even a Cape Chuck Lyft!
Reverse angle is just not “CC antique charm”.

I agree, how could they think this is a good solution,it would be down right UGLY in quaint town like Cape Charles.
Let’s Hope and Pray it never happens.

Funny one Thomy.

Please read the lower portion of the article. The key word is SATIRE. This solution to parking would only work in a less congested parking area like Exmore.

What you want to know the cost of is creating a lot on the back end of town with a trolley service from that satellite lot. The trolley service could be just during the summer months 12-16 weeks, or even just weekends to start. There are a bunch of small towns, and vacation resorts that do this. It could be as simple as a person in a 6 passenger limo cart. There are a bunch of ways to do this but the overall goal is to keep valuable near-waterfront property from becoming a parking lot that is only really needed 3-4 months a year.

Actually…not a bad idea! Give some High School kids the job! Like it!

So where is this “lot on the back end of town? “
