The Town of Cape Charles is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve in a multi-faceted, fast paced position, to assist the Town Manager with oversight of day-to-day operations, to provide support to various departments as needed, to serve as the Town’s liaison to other community organizations, and to help coordinate Town events.
DUTIES AND SKILLS:
Special Assistant to the Town Manager
Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Special Assistant will assist in monitoring Town operations, perform administrative and clerical duties, maintain calendars, conduct research, and compile data/reports. This position will assist the Manager with contract administration, procurement processes, budget monitoring, and in coordinating interdepartmental requirements. The Special Assistant will be the primary liaison between the Town Manager and various community and Town organizations as assigned.
Office and Team Coordinator
This position will provide general operational support such as ordering office supplies, acting as a point-of-contact for technical support, and overseeing grants and associated reporting. The Special Assistant will provide support to the Town Clerk and may be asked to assist the Clerk during public meetings. During certain times of the year, additional assistance may be provided to Human Resources during open enrollment, the Finance Department during tax season and budget preparation, and to pinch hit for other departments as may be needed.
Community Outreach & Events
The Special Assistant will work closely with the Public Works and Police Departments to coordinate and manage Town events (like the 4th of July and the Dropping of the Crab Pot on New Year’s Eve). This position will manage all scheduling and coordination for use of Town facilities and will oversee seasonal employees for the beach attendant and litter patrol programs.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a superior work ethic, be versatile with a positive attitude, and have had experience working with the public, preferably in the public sector. He or she must have the ability to handle customer complaints in a professional and courteous manner. The candidate must be a team player and get along with all personalities and be open to learn, grow, and contribute. A college degree is preferred, although applicable work experience may be substituted. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The candidate must also be available to occasionally work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
This is a non-exempt position with excellent benefits that is subject to receiving overtime. The hiring range is $40,000-$44,500 DOQ.
