UPDATE: Open auditions for the play The Clam-Digger’s Daughter will be held at the Palace Theater in Cape Charles Saturday January 28th 1:30.
Due to several calls and requests, we are moving the date to January 28th.
This is an original script based on the 1947 film by Nell Shipman, The Clam-Digger’s Daughter, also known as the The Story of Mr. Hobbs. The story takes place in Cape Charles during the 1940s. The plot hinges on an ecological disaster involving the erosion of clam beds which are in dire need of a breakwater to protect them. The clam-digger Hobbs, bitter that his livelihood is being washed away, takes a millionaire investment banker to task for not financing a project that could save the waterman’s culture.
Actors are encouraged to bring a song to sing acapella.
There are many roles in the chorus for carnival and street scenes.
