This week, a Virginia legislator introduced a bill whose summary states it “removes the requirement that a pregnant minor seeking an abortion obtain either parental consent or judicial authorization.” Sen. Dick Saslaw of Fairfax County, Virginia, who was elected by Virginia Senate Democrats to be their next majority leader, as Richmond.com reports, introduced Senate Bill 21, which also states:
The bill removes the requirement that a pregnant woman seeking to obtain an abortion undergo a fetal transabdominal ultrasound prior to obtaining an abortion at least 24 hours prior to obtaining an abortion, or at least two hours prior to obtaining an abortion if the pregnant woman lives at least 100 miles from the facility where the abortion is to be performed. The bill also removes language classifying facilities that perform five or more first-trimester abortions per month as hospitals for the purpose of complying with regulations establishing minimum standards for hospitals.
Democrat legislators in Virginia seem determined to support abortion providers. As National Review reported in late October:
Documents uncovered from earlier this year show that Virginia governor Ralph Northam obtained talking points on abortion policy from both Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. The documents were released today by Judicial Watch, which filed requests in February under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, seeking records of communication between Northam’s staff related to abortion or the abortion bill sponsored earlier this year by state representative Kathy Tran. The group also requested records of communication between Northam’s staff and Planned Parenthood or the abortion-advocacy PAC EMILY’s List.
Northam infamously declared in a January radio interview: “If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated, if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
As The Daily Wire reported last January, Virginia Democratic Delegate Kathy Tran proposed legislation that would allow abortions up until the moment of birth. The Repeal Act, introduced as HB2491, would eliminate all existing restrictions on abortion in the state of Virginia. A summary of the bill stated:
Eliminates the requirement that an abortion in the second trimester of pregnancy and prior to the third trimester be performed in a hospital. The bill eliminates all the procedures and processes, including the performance of an ultrasound, required to effect a woman’s informed written consent to the performance of an abortion; however, the bill does not change the requirement that a woman’s informed written consent be first obtained.
The bill eliminates the requirement that two other physicians certify that a third trimester abortion is necessary to prevent the woman’s death or impairment of her mental or physical health, as well as the need to find that any such impairment to the woman’s health would be substantial and irremediable. The bill also removes language classifying facilities that perform five or more first-trimester abortions per month as hospitals for the purpose of complying with regulations establishing minimum standards for hospitals.

Well, my take away from this article is that Gov. Ralph Northam, and anyone who supports this legislation, absolutely must be completely out of their mind. Ralph Northam has 2 children and I seriously doubt that man would allow me to help choose his children’s next meal, or a pair of their pants w/o his consent, but he wants the right to help my child to choose to have an abortion w/o my consent ?
There are only words that are expletives or threats to his well being that properly express how I feel about this. When he began talking about his stance on very late term abortions a few months ago I thought he could never possibly say anything worse. Oh if only his mother had the same attitude about abortion early in 1959. We might be lucky enough to not have to listen to this. I bet when he was kicking around inside her she knew he was pure evil.

I can’t imagine how terrifying must it be to be a teenage girl who made a mistake and got pregnant and is growing up in a conservative family.
Publius Americanus says
Yeah, far worse than living in a totalitarian socialist swill hole where your neighbors will turn you in for a larger share of moldy bread from the local commissar.
Boy, you sure learned a lot from professors Marcuse and Alynsky. Tell me more stories of you sitting at Uncle Vanya’s feet as he told you stories of his childhood in Georgia.
And how one death is a tragedy buy a million a mere statistic.
You have no mirrors in your home, do you Sorin?
Because if I had your beliefs, I couldn’t look myself in the face either.

“Yeah, far worse than living in a totalitarian socialist swill hole where your neighbors will turn you in for a larger share of moldy bread from the local commissar.”
You would love it in the communist countries then, they banned abortions too.
By the way, I love it when right wing people who learned “history” from Fox News or other propaganda arms of the GOP are schooling me on life in a communist country, what socialism and communism is, and so on. Unlike you, I lived there. And like in your conservative utopia, women would die trying to get an abortion so they won’t have to have a child they could not afford, they didn’t want to raise alone, etc.
Publius Americanus says
Comrade, abortion is used, and MARKETED as birth control.
You totalitarians sure do love telling people how to live their lives, doncha?
How horrible, conservatives try to teach their kids to keep their legs closed.
And your horror stories about family life in nice(nee conservative) households is apocryphal, right outa fiction.

Sorry pal, you are the “comrade” here. I am not telling you or anyone else what should you do with your OWN body. You are trying to impose on others your believes.
>How horrible, conservatives try to teach their kids to keep their legs closed.
And how is that working out for you?

News for you, the average Conservative parent would be plenty upset if this happened but they would NOT abandon their child or grandchild because of it.
It’s part of the whole right to life thing. You wouldn’t understand.
“I love it when right wing people who learned “history” from Fox News or other propaganda arms of the GOP are schooling me on life in a communist country”.
And we love it when foreign born Leftists who learned about American Conservative households on MSNBC school us on how terrifying it would be to get pregnant in such a horrifying environment.
heh.

Ha, I guess it never occurred to me that the girl being abandoned was a possible outcome. I was referring to the pressure they are likely putting on the teen to have the baby and by doing that forfeit whatever education and economic independence future they might of had.
“And we love it when foreign born Leftists who learned about American Conservative households on MSNBC school us on how terrifying it would be to get pregnant in such a horrifying environment.”
I actually read/watch conservative media along with liberal media. I like to hear both sides, but yes, I rarely side with the conservative positions, as the concept of compromise seems to be lost there.
Ray Otton says
“as the concept of compromise seems to be lost there.”
Look to your own side of the aisle for prime examples of adherence to an orthodoxy that allows for no descent, not Conservatives.
We’ve been compromising for decades and look where we are.
Out of control national debt, welfare state, homelessness, drug addition, illegal immigration, inner city violence, generational poverty and pretty much every other degradation of society can be laid at the feet of Liberal policies. Polices that Conservatives have been fighting a losing battle against forever.
“I was referring to the pressure they are likely putting on the teen to have the baby and by doing that forfeit whatever education and economic independence future they might of had.”
So, kill the baby to save the baby?
Yeah, no.
I think Dr. Carson, brought up in the projects of Baltimore by a single mother would disagree with your premise.
Know who else would disagree?
Me.
I was born to an unwed teenager 68 years ago, adopted at birth by two good people and made a success out of my life.
There is no doubt in my mind that I would have ended up in a bucket if this had occurred in 1981 instead of 1951.
Abortion is digital. Either the intended victim survives due to a loving mother or a non-caring, brainwashed mother kills it.
Full stop.

Ray, you live in la-la land. The statement above is so out of touch with reality that I am not going to waste my time taking it apart.
Publius Americanus says
Because you can’t. The truth is the truth.
Get outa the ESVA and look at the lovely cities you have sentenced so many to suffer in.
But you don’t care as long as you have your abortion and absolute power over others.
MJM says
“Love is the only house big enough for all the pain in the world”. I really could not care less where any of us are born, where we got our education, our political opinions, or what political party we are members of, or support.
There is no way to know whether a liberal family or a conservative family weathers the difficulties of a child having a child better than the other, or puts more or less pressure on that child having a child. Y’all know that. Only pure love, the love of and for that young lady , the love of and for the entire family, and the love of and for the yet to be born will get the family through this trying time. Heaven forbid a loving decision of adoption ever be made.
In the meantime, none of that even matters. That isn’t the question at all, is it ?
Here’s a different comparison, rather that Ralph letting me decide what his children might eat. Right now any of us can turn on the t.v. and we can see the name of Jeffrey Epstein. World famous pedophile. The world was all upset w/him luring underage girls wherever he wanted to have sex with them. We won’t find too many responsible adults in this world who think Epstein’s actions were okay. But now we’re actually supposed to consider it okay for our governor to enact legislation that would allow him to lure underage girls to have an abortion.
Abortion is okay and sex is not. Because of social stigma? Or because a mistake is made? I am not getting the morality of the winner of that question. Or the legality. Because he’s the governor ? Oh, so Jeffrey Epstein should have just become the governor of Va. first and then his actions would have been okay ?
Hmmmm………I wonder what Ralph’s next proposed legislation regarding underage girls is ?
We have lots of people in this world who are capable of making a mistake.
