Town Manager reports that VDOT has rejected the town’s request to replace back-in angle parking with front, head-in parking. The VDOT response cited that it considers front-in a less safe parking configuration than back-in angle parking.
The town is required to address the safety issue in detail and make several changes and clarifications before VDOT will review the next request. The town has punted the request to its consultant Clark Nexsen for further review.
At this point, citizens may wonder if this has become nothing more than an exercise in futility. After several years now, back-in angle parking should not be an issue. The real issue facing the Town of Cape Charles is that the parking situation, especially in summer, is a complete clusterflubbit (this is a made-up word, but you know what we mean).
Back-in, front-in, who cares. The town just needs to find a place to put all of these cars. How you park really doesn’t matter if there’s nowhere to do it.
If VDOT knows what it is THEY want, why don’t they simply do the design, instead of what seems a child’s game of twenty questions.
Holy crap Batman! WTH is going on!?
I will tell you this, this is the biggest bullsh$# the town manager is shoveling the people of Cape Charles!
This is totally incorrect! Being a driving instructor for Northern Virginia Criminal Justice academy for over 10 years. This is total Bulls$#! Back in parking is the most dangerous parking there is!
The city of Alexandria, Va. tried it, Bethany Beach, Del. tried it. It all failed!!!
It causes traffic congestion, blind spots and hazards for people walking on the sidewalks. And it is not senior citizen friendly. Insurance companies frown on any Law Enforcement agency, requiring back in parking. Why?! Because it causes accidents! Its call liability law suites!
Either, the town manager told VDOT that the town will not support changing the parking lines unless VDOT pays and approves the town’s design. Or the town manager is making it too difficult for VDOT to schedule when they can perform the job ( maybe Spring or Summertime?).
Because common logic will tell you, that the entire state of Virginia is parking illegally or the town manager is shoveling crap! I also believe the town manager is tiring to get VDOT to build additional parking at the expense of the state, not Cape Charles, because of their reckless decisions making.
This is not right! No problem with parking for years until the town changed the direction in which you can park.
How about no RV parking or boats in town?
Never addressed the possibility of another snow storm where emergency vehicles couldn’t get to residents in need of emergency services. Because of RVs and boats blocking snow removal equipment.
When will town managers learn that the town is only so big and can only support so many people?
This is why no major business wants to come to the Shore. There are only so many people here for a short time. Its call profit/cost analysis. No profit no business. Just that simple.
The town suckered in the retirees, only to suck every dollar they have and only give them limited resources.
Good job town manager! Pass the buck to Clarknexen. And why are you the town manager if you can’t solve a little parking problem that wasn’t much of a problem a couple of years ago?
Looking for property away from Cape Charles. Because Cape Charles town manager provides nothing for the year around residents!
Cheriton is the New..Cape Charles…..Without the BS…
135 years and Cape Charles continues to grapple with how to park cars. Oh my!
Maybe Bloxom should intervene?
