The next VIMS Tidal Wetlands Workshop will be held Tuesday, May 2, at the College of William & Mary School of Education in Williamsburg, VA. The workshop theme this year is
Sustainable Shorelines in Action: Successful Applications & Incentive Programs
The planned program will highlight the increasing use of living shoreline projects and the successful implementation of incentive programs, including expedited permitting, financial support, and earning credits for the Chesapeake Bay TMDL and reduced flood insurance premiums.
Invited speakers include representatives from local, state and federal agencies and others directly involved with sustainable shoreline actions.
Successful implementation of these positive actions is made possible through a partnership of public and private stakeholders. Workshop presentations will be given by VIMS scientists and invited speakers, including representatives from the Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Soil & Water Conservation Districts, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission, and Wetlands Watch. The planned program also includes time for interactive discussions about expanding participation in the incentive programs and what next steps can be taken to keep the positive momentum going.
