When American liberals, including in the media, look in the mirror, what they see staring back are anti-Tumpers Rick Wilson and Steve Schmidt, and John Weaver. That is the perfect reflection of what they have become, of who they now are.
“The Lincoln Project,” got very rich in 2020 with anti-Trump online messaging. This week it has spent a lot of collateral responding to numerous scandals on multiple fronts.
This is a whole new category of Liberal sleaze.
The e Lincoln Project enriched its operatives by exploiting the fears of U.S. liberals. Reporting conclusively demonstrated that the vast majority of the tens of millions of dollars raised by the group was going to firms controlled by its founders.
GOP consultant Rick Wilson collected $65,000 from liberals through GoFundMe for an anti-Trump film which was never made, and he refuses to explain what he did with that money.
Then, the New York Times reported on Jan. 31 that more than 20 men had accused the Lincoln Project leader John Weaver, who served as a top strategist for the late Arizona Sen. John McCain and later worked on former Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s 2016 presidential bid, of sexually harassing them through online messages. Questions intensified about when Lincoln Project leaders first learned about the accusations and what they did to address them.
Weaver, who is married with a wife and two children, has acknowledged sending “inappropriate” messages to men.
Senate Majority PAC, the top Democratic outside group focused on Senate races, and Majority Forward, an affiliated nonprofit, gave $1.9 million to Lincoln Project in October, at the height of the election. Lincoln Project had been spending on ads against GOP senators, including in critical races in South Carolina and Maine. They are now struggling to distance themselves.
So it goes.
