According to the US Census Bureau (USCB) Household Pulse Survey, at least 5 million American parents have decided to educate their children entirely at home. That’s up from about 3.2 million homeschooling parents early in 2020.
Considering that according to the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES), only 25 percent of homeschools have one child, the number of homeschool students has likely risen dramatically—and because that information is now being measured by the USCB, we’ll soon have an idea of the number of homeschooled students nationwide.
To put this in perspective, according to its most recent tally in 2015, the NCES put the total number of private school students in the United States at 5.8 million.
