RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Virginia State Police are receiving hundreds of reports of drone sightings across the Commonwealth.
This follows the FAA’s announcement Thursday that drones are temporarily banned in parts of New Jersey where these sightings started.
“Since the start of December, we’ve received more than 150 tips regarding drone activity in the commonwealth; we are investigating each of those,” Matt Demlein, a spokesperson for Virginia State Police, said. VSP said they continue to investigate drone sightings across the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Fusion Center, part of the Virginia State Police Homeland Security division, is investigating the tips.
Several drone sightings started popping up over New Jersey, causing some concern from state leaders and community members.
The Department of Defense issued a statement saying it found no national security or public safety risk in civilian airspace in New Jersey or other northeastern states.

“And I have been wholly unsatisfied with the response that I have received by the federal government. We are working at the state level in collaboration with local FBI, local DOD folks, state police, and local law enforcement in order to gather information because there is clearly something going on,” Gov. Youngkin said.
On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, and Gov. Glenn Youngkin received a classified briefing at the Capitol from the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, and the FBI regarding the ongoing investigation into the unexplained drone sightings in Virginia. Following the briefing, they issued the following statement:
“While we appreciate the agencies taking the time to update us on the situation, this briefing was insufficient and unsatisfactory. It has been more than a year since these sightings over key military facilities in Virginia and the lack of answers about the nature, intent, and origin of these incidents is completely unacceptable. The safety of Virginians remains our top priority, and we are determined to continue pressing for additional details as well as greater coordination with state and local officials. We will be staying in close contact with the relevant federal and state agencies to ensure that these concerns are pursued vigorously.”
State police are now urging you to report if you see a drone flying over important buildings like energy installations or military sites. Community members who wanted to remain anonymous told 12 On Your Side they wanted more transparency with the government’s communication.
This is abhorrent!
Yes, but, is Govenor Glen Youngkin aware of the situation…..and
Is he concerned?
They would not have been able to fly over The Eastern Shore in the late 70’s to early 80’s without a couple being shot down.
Come-here’s!

Glad you agree Tom. Don’t forget the use of irony too.
12 gauge #7 1/2 Birdshot works well on the low level drones peeking in your windows. Semi auto’s are the way to go…
