The town is hosting two open-house sessions this week for residents to view early design concepts and share feedback on the Railyard & Harbor Area Master Plan.
Cape Charles residents will have the chance to shape the future of one of the town’s most storied waterfront areas this week, as the municipality holds its second community engagement event for the ongoing Railyard & Harbor Area Master Plan.
The drop-in style sessions — no registration required — are designed to give the public an early look at planning concepts before they are finalized. Attendees can browse initial design ideas, ask questions, and share their priorities directly with the project team from the Berkley Group, the planning consultants overseeing the effort.

The railyard and harbor area holds deep historical significance for Cape Charles, which was founded as a railroad terminus in the 1880s. As the town continues to grow as a destination on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, local officials and planners are seeking a long-range vision that balances economic development, public access, and the area’s distinctive character.
This is the second in a series of community engagement events planned throughout the master planning process. Town officials are encouraging broad participation, noting that early public input helps ensure the final plan reflects the community’s values and priorities.
For residents who cannot attend in person, a QR code on the town’s event materials links to an online feedback form where comments can be submitted digitally.
