CAPE CHARLES, VA – This summer, the Cape Charles Mirror celebrates 10 years of dedicated local coverage along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Founded in 2015, the independent online community journal has become a voice for residents of Cape Charles and surrounding Northampton County, offering in-depth reporting on town life—from town council meetings to beach development and cultural events.
Over its tenure, the publication has published more than 9,000 articles and over 26,000 approved reader comments. These numbers reflect the Mirror’s ethos of fostering dialogue and giving a platform to community opinions.
About Covering Cape Charles & the Shore
- Hyperlocal coverage: The Mirror maintains its independence–it does not take advertising dollars, and funds the newspaper on its own. Sometimes a grind, it is a labor of love for the editor. From updates on infrastructure projects and town board debates, to profiles of small business owners and coverage of community celebrations like Independence Day festivities and the annual Dropping of the Crab Pot, the Mirror’s reporting frequently finds resonance with both residents and visitors.
- Community engagement: With tens of thousands of comments, the Mirror has cultivated a robust online forum where locals can discuss, debate, and shape the town’s future. It is appreciated and hated for providing a voice to those who are mostly overlooked and silenced.
Cape Charles remains a charming coastal village on the southern end of Virginia’s Eastern Shore—celebrated for its historic architecture, public beach, fishing industry, and burgeoning arts scene, including galleries, cafes, and live events. Nearby landmarks like Kiptopeke State Park also draw nature lovers, offering beachfront access and wildlife habitats.
As the Mirror enters its second decade, it continues to serve as a local resource—one that informs, connects, and inspires residents and stakeholders working to preserve Cape Charles’s character and natural charm.

Congratulations Wayne on TEN YEARS!!!
Speaking of the first article, I noticed it mentions Bob Panek. Just wanted to remind everyone how the town fired him from one position, then created another position just for him. Also the fact that he was given a slap on the wrist for stealing over 250,000 dollars from the Pentagon before being hired by the town of Cape Charles.
Congratulations, and long may you run!
Congratulations!
