  1. We definitely need change not just in Cape Charles but the whole Eastern Shore. I am currently putting together some ideas on what many of us in the community feel is needed. Making companion animals no longer personal property is top on the list. Educating the community on proper care of there companions animals is another. We definitely need change and hopefully this will happen sooner than later.

  2. With rights go responsibilities. We have lost all sight of this even in human relations. We have people who never in their lives do a thing to benefit society, never do a day’s work to support their children or the mothers of said childre and do nothing to earn their own keep. Among us there are “career criminals” who never do a good thing in their entire lives but in many cases take the lives of good people and young people with great promise. Our president has the gall to talk about “FAIR SHARE” when so many work and pay taxes all their lives and are still paying taxes way on into old age with now having a multitude of froblems. Even defending the country falls on a minority. The good citizens have demands put on them by criminals instead of the other way around. I am so sick of the word “entitlement” being applied to gifts & handing out things that have not been earned.
When it comes to animals, they have no responsibilities and therefore can have no rights. They should be protected from cruelty and misteatment & to a great extent they are. Most who have pets accept the animal as a part of the family and they are very well treated & cared for. Even farm animals in general are treated very well it being to the advantage of the farmer to have happy healthy livestock.
I understand that many people object to the eating of meat because of the killing involved and that many do eat meat. So, to each his own but let’s leave each other alone.
There are a great number of dog bites per year. There are problems with dogs running loose such as auto accidents, killing or injuring of other anmals and property damage. Legal l iability is generaly clear. The dog owner gets sued. If dogs are not property, now who gets sued? The dog’s mom & dad? The dog? If there’s no ownership, how is the animan legally transferred to another party?
There is a basic distinction here in that humans are humans & that animals are animals and not to get the two confused. Killing a human is murder, even an unborn boy or girl, which is NOT a part of a woman’s body, and the killing of an animal for no reason may be a crime but of a lesser extent.
